Role Overview

The Senior System Engineer will be responsible for comprehensive Linux system administration including virtualization, server provisioning, patch management, configuration management, storage, database platform support, middleware assistance, monitoring, and operational documentation. Ensuring system integrity, reliability, and efficient infrastructure support forms the core of this role.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Deploy and maintain Linux virtual machines on platforms such as VMware vSphere and Proxmox.
  • Oversee Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) patching routines and subscription lifecycle via Red Hat Satellite.
  • Administer essential infrastructure services including DNS (BIND) and NTP (Chrony).
  • Manage storage configurations covering LVM, multipathing, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel technologies.
  • Provide operational support for Oracle and PostgreSQL database platforms.
  • Support installation and maintenance of middleware platforms such as WebLogic and JBoss/WildFly.
  • Continuously monitor system performance, update technical documentation, and participate in on-call duties for incident management.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Extensive administration experience with RHEL versions 7, 8, and 9.
  • Proficiency in Ubuntu Server administration.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere and ESXi environments.
  • Skill in using Kickstart and other automated provisioning methods.
  • Knowledge of Red Hat Satellite for system management.
  • Experience with logical volume management (LVM), multipathing, iSCSI, and Fibre Channel storage solutions.
  • Competence in managing DNS, NTP, and foundational TCP/IP networking.
  • Operational expertise with Oracle and PostgreSQL databases and middleware support.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) certification or higher.
  • Familiarity with version control using Git.
  • Understanding of monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus/Grafana.
  • Experience with IT service management platforms like ITIL frameworks, ServiceNow, or Jira.
  • Basic scripting skills in Bash and/or Python.

Authority and Decision Making

This position holds responsibility for establishing and enforcing Linux server operational standards, managing provisioning and patching processes, troubleshooting infrastructure issues, and ensuring compliance with change management protocols.
