Senior Structural Engineer - Data Centre

About the Role

Jacobs is seeking a seasoned Senior Structural Engineer to join the Construction Supervision team for Hyperscale Data Center and Mission-Critical Infrastructure projects throughout the Middle East. This position demands oversight of structural engineering tasks and construction supervision to guarantee that all structural components are constructed safely, effectively, and align with project criteria, international norms, client expectations, and local laws.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise structural construction activities ensuring adherence to approved drawings, specifications, project standards, and relevant codes.
• Assess and approve contractor shop drawings, method statements, inspection and test plans, material submissions, and technical documents.
• Monitor contractor output and performance to maintain compliance with schedules, quality, and contract terms.
• Conduct routine site inspections, promptly addressing construction or quality related issues.
• Evaluate technical queries, requests for information, and contractor proposals.
• Identify and handle structural risks or construction challenges impacting the project timeline.
• Collaborate with Resident Engineers, MEP Engineers, Architects, Inspectors, and Project Management teams for smooth project implementation.
• Review and validate structural designs and calculations from contractors and consultants, ensuring compliance with project specs, international standards, and local regulations.
• Analyze constructability and value-engineering options while preserving structural performance.
• Oversee temporary works designs such as formwork, shoring, excavation supports, crane foundations, and temporary supports.
• Lead technical and structural supervision for all data center systems including reinforced concrete, steel and composite structures linked to data halls, utility plants, substations, generator buildings, and critical facilities.
• Supervise construction of foundations, including piled and raft foundations, equipment foundations, and heavy-duty structural components.
• Ensure coordination across structural, architectural, civil, MEP, ICT, and commissioning teams to integrate infrastructure systems seamlessly.
• Check structural interfaces, penetrations, embedded items, and equipment supports for constructability and design compliance.
• Verify that structural works meet resilience, redundancy, reliability, and operational standards of Tier III and Tier IV Data Centers.
• Support quality assurance/control activities including inspections, material approvals, testing validation, and resolving non-conformities.
• Actively mitigate structural and construction risks that could affect safety, quality, schedule, or delivery.
• Assist in testing, commissioning, and handover by ensuring structural systems are complete and well documented.
• Engage with clients, contractors, design consultants, vendors, and authorities through technical meetings, coordination workshops, and progress reviews.
• Prepare technical reports and progress updates to support client communications.

Key Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited institution.
• 12 to 15 years of overall experience in structural engineering, design assessment, and construction supervision.
• 3 to 5 years specifically working on Hyperscale Data Centers, Tier III/IV Data Centers, Mission-Critical or Digital Infrastructure projects.
• Proven track record in supervising reinforced concrete and structural steel construction for data halls, utility plants, substations, generators, and related facilities.
• Expertise in complex foundation systems including piled, raft, equipment, and heavy-load foundations.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams through construction and commissioning.
• Familiarity with structural inspections, technical reviews, contractor compliance monitoring, and quality assurance practices.
• Experience operating within FIDIC-based contractual frameworks and international project delivery standards.
