Job description

Overview

We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Structural Analysis Engineer to join our elite engineering team at our new Silverstone facility. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for performing detailed structural simulations and finite element analyses (FEA), along with advanced optimization techniques, to enhance the performance and safety of racing car structures. Your contributions will significantly affect the structural integrity and performance of various components throughout the race car platform, directly impacting competitive success on the track. This is a dynamic, fast-paced environment where collaboration with cross-disciplinary teams and mentorship of junior engineers are key.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead structural simulation projects and optimization tasks for critical vehicle systems to achieve lightweight, sturdy, and high-performance designs.
  • Carry out sophisticated structural analyses using top-tier software tools such as HyperWorks and Abaqus, including linear/nonlinear, buckling, fatigue, and other optimization analyses, alongside traditional hand calculations.
  • Perform detailed composite material analyses, applying in-depth knowledge of laminate theory, ply failure criteria, and manufacturing limitations.
  • Work closely with design teams to evaluate and enhance design concepts, improve load paths, and guide the development process from initial design through to on-track application.
  • Establish, examine, and validate structural load cases ensuring full compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and present comprehensive reports and technical documentation communicating results effectively to both technical teams and stakeholders without technical backgrounds.
  • Drive continuous improvements in analysis workflows, boost accuracy in modeling, and contribute to best practice development within the structural engineering group.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to junior and entry-level structural engineers to cultivate their technical expertise and analytical skills.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • A Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Advanced expertise in finite element analysis and conventional hand calculation methods, with proficiency in industry-leading software such as HyperWorks and/or Abaqus.
  • Extensive experience in composite material analysis and optimization strategies.
  • Skilled in CAD-to-FEA integration and automation scripting languages like Python or TCL, adept at managing complex loading scenarios.
  • Knowledge of fatigue analysis and damage tolerance principles is advantageous.
  • Exceptional communication abilities with a demonstrated capacity to influence design decisions across multiple disciplines.
  • Well-developed organizational skills, proactive problem-solving attitude, and hands-on approach.
  • Dedicated to cultivating an inclusive, open, and collaborative team culture.
