Senior Software Engineer - React Native Consumer

Kraken offers services including spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC trading.

Team and Product

The Consumer Mobile team develops the Kraken app used by millions to access their financial assets. The team specializes in React Native to create intuitive, rapid, and reliable financial interfaces by closely collaborating with product and design teams to solve client problems and optimize user experience.

Role Opportunity

• Design and deliver high-quality React Native features end-to-end, from defining solutions to deployment and ongoing iteration.
• Collaborate with Product and Design teams to craft responsive and trustworthy financial user journeys, including trading and streamlined client experiences.
• Work extensively with APIs and real-time data, making effective decisions on state management, rendering, performance, architecture, and reliability.
• Contribute to technical excellence through code reviews, discussions, product ownership, and resolving both technical and product challenges.
• Lead efforts in building a new Kraken app tailored for Asian markets, guiding on regional user experience expectations, design language, firewall and connectivity issues, and selecting appropriate vendors and telemetry tools.

Candidate Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with React Native, including shipping production apps and architectural decision-making in modern mobile environments.
• A product-centric mindset with sharp judgment to start from user problems, challenge or refine requirements, and deliver measurable product results.
• Proven capacity to own features end-to-end, using metrics, experiments, and user feedback for continuous improvement.
• Experience developing responsive, data-intensive applications using APIs and real-time data streams, and effective communication skills in English with product and design teams.
• Flexibility in roles and intelligent use of AI tools like Cursor, Copilot, or Claude to enhance productivity while maintaining engineering quality and responsibility.
• Solid background in building and launching consumer mobile applications for the Asian market, with understanding of regional UX/design conventions, technical constraints, and challenges such as firewall and connectivity restrictions.

Preferred Skills

• Background in fintech, trading, cryptocurrency, payments, or financial technology sectors with knowledge of trading or investing products.
• Experience with real-time/streaming data and improving mobile app performance, responsiveness, and reliability across devices.
• Exposure to both mobile and web platforms or experience in startups or mid-sized tech companies with close product and design collaboration.
• Proficiency in native mobile development using Swift or Kotlin, including discernment of when to work beyond the React Native abstraction layer.
• Fluency in Asian languages such as Mandarin or other regional languages.
