About the Role and Team
The MongoDB Query Testing Tools Team is seeking skilled Software Engineers focused on developing a cutting-edge distributed query system. You will be building advanced testing frameworks—including end-to-end testing, fuzzing, and property-based testing—and performance analysis tools featuring high-volume workload generators. The team is embedded within the Query organization which maintains and evolves MongoDB's Query Language lifecycle from parsing to optimization and plan selection, ensuring top-notch query correctness and performance.
This position offers flexibility to work remotely across Ireland or from our offices in Dublin or Cork.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automated testing frameworks and performance test tools specific to the MongoDB query engine.
- Collaborate with team members to understand new features and functionalities, ensuring test frameworks and tooling adequately cover typical and edge case scenarios.
- Participate actively in code reviews focusing on code robustness and system reliability.
Candidate Profile and Requirements
- Minimum 5 years experience in software development or performance engineering.
- Fluency in one or more of Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
- Aptitude for diagnosing complex issues within distributed systems.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining intricate concepts clearly in written and spoken English.
- Strong problem-solving skills with ability to experiment and reconsider assumptions rapidly.
- Hands-on exposure to relational or NoSQL database technologies is advantageous.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience; advanced academic background in database query engines is a plus.
- Experience developing automated test frameworks is desirable.
- Background in query engine testing and performance test planning/monitoring is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge in database query engines or compiler technology is an additional benefit.
Success Metrics
- Within 3 months, become proficient in MongoDB Query Language syntax and semantics and contribute to internal tooling codebases.
- By 6 months, assume a leadership role in owning automated testing frameworks and demonstrate enhancements in test efficiency and coverage.
- Within 12 months, play a key role ensuring quality of major feature releases, mentoring new teammates on best practices in correctness and performance testing automation.
