Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer specializing in Infrastructure and Developer Tooling to join our platform infrastructure team in Toronto. This role focuses on crafting internal tools that enhance engineering effectiveness, streamline workflows, and improve CI/CD pipelines and software deployments. The ideal candidate treats internal engineers as customers, prioritizes developer experience, and applies solid software engineering principles within the infrastructure realm.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, maintain, and enhance internal developer tools that optimize engineering processes, deployment pipelines, and workflow efficiency.
- Own full lifecycle development for features, including coding, deployment, monitoring, and support in production.
- Identify and resolve obstacles affecting developer experience by leveraging data and metrics to guide improvements.
- Contribute to the robustness and scalability of AWS cloud infrastructure within specified domains.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code that adheres to Homebase's engineering standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including platform, security, and product to align requirements and ensure cohesive integration.
- Participate in on-call rotations to promptly address infrastructure issues and maintain service reliability.
- Work closely with colleagues to influence engineering decisions and best practices within the team.
- Utilize AI tools to enhance personal productivity and improve development workflows.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years in software development or infrastructure engineering, with a foundation rooted in software development.
- Proficient in Ruby or Golang, capable of producing production-quality code and developing internal services using one or both languages.
- Experience building internal platforms or tooling treated as products, driven by user data and feedback.
- Strong commitment to improving developer experience by treating internal engineers as valued customers.
- Practical knowledge of AWS or other cloud infrastructure, including navigating production environments confidently.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code methodologies, particularly Terraform, and container-based application deployment.
- Experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) processes and understanding of software delivery pipelines.
- Skilled in utilizing observability tools to diagnose and troubleshoot production issues.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with platform, security, and product teams, maintaining clear communication and avoiding surprises.
- Demonstrates strong ownership, delivering commitments reliably and monitoring outcomes with accountability.
