Job description
About the Role
At Affirm, we are dedicated to enabling important moments by offering clear, predictable payment options without hidden fees or compromises. Our Marketing & Privacy Engineering (MPE) team focuses on building privacy-conscious consumer web experiences and measurement systems that support sustainable growth. The Marketing segment manages Affirm’s Logged-Out Web experiences, experimentation, tagging, marketing integrations, attribution, and performance measurement.
As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, your key responsibility will be to develop foundational data and measurement systems that connect consumer acquisition channels like paid media, SEO/AEO, to downstream business outcomes including signups, conversions, and Gross Merchandise Value (GMV). This role blends marketing technology with data engineering by creating dependable pipelines, identity and event data frameworks, attribution models, and ecosystem integrations. Cross-functional collaboration with Engineering, Product, Marketing, Analytics, and Data teams ensures compliance with consent, tagging, identity, and consumer data requirements throughout measurement architecture.
Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver quarterly objectives for your team, guiding engineers through complex, ambiguous challenges while ensuring strong team support during project execution.
- Collaborate with product, design, and analytics teams in the product development cycle by contributing to ideation, clarifying technical constraints, and aiding informed decision-making regarding risks and compromises.
- Proactively spot and address issues related to projects, technology, processes, or business needs, leading improvements where necessary.
- Maintain operational stability of deliverables by developing and tracking metrics, managing escalations, and supporting regular maintenance and on-call duties.
- Promote a culture of quality and ownership by establishing and advocating for rigorous code review and design standards within your team and the broader organization through documentation and technical presentations.
- Contribute to talent growth by giving constructive feedback and guidance, exemplifying leadership standards.
Qualifications
- 4 or more years of experience designing and deploying backend systems at scale, particularly using Python or Kotlin.
- Proven experience in building resilient distributed systems with technologies such as AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Hands-on expertise in developing marketing data and measurement solutions with tools like Google Tag Manager (GTM/sGTM), GA4, advertising and conversion APIs, customer data platforms, attribution and mobile measurement platforms, and consent management frameworks.
- Experience constructing production data pipelines and analytics models utilizing Snowflake, dbt, and Airflow, including handling event-level data, identity resolution, attribution, and conversion tracking.
- Capability to design and implement major features or system components, emphasizing simplicity, extensibility, and high code quality that promotes team usability.
- Comfortable managing substantial changes within large codebases and applying tooling and practices that ensure safe and efficient modifications.
- Demonstrated ownership of personal development by actively seeking and incorporating feedback from various stakeholders.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills enabling effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
