Senior Software Development Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join JioStar's web team in Bangalore. This role involves building an exceptional content viewing experience for JioHotstar users by tackling complex technical challenges and developing large-scale distributed applications. The position demands high operational standards to ensure seamless performance on the JioHotstar web and TV platforms.

About the Team

JioStar’s Ad Platform stands out as a leading video advertising network in India, with ambitions to reach greater heights. The team specializes in Video-On-Demand, Live Sports, and Ad Monetization to develop a highly effective and scalable adtech ecosystem. Responsibilities span the entire stack, from backend high-throughput services to refined client-side ad integrations.

Key Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of developing and enhancing a wide array of innovative features.
• Work collaboratively with product stakeholders to implement new features on the website and app.
• Validate the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs and carry out implementations.
• Lead features through all stages from design to production delivery.
• Develop reusable code components and contribute to the in-house design system.
• Maintain high code quality via code reviews and adherence to standards.
• Create detailed documentation, including diagrams and code comments to convey solutions clearly.
• Mentor and support junior engineers through guidance and educational opportunities.
• Continuously optimize performance to ensure JioHotstar works smoothly on devices with limited memory and bandwidth, pushing browser capabilities forward.

Required Skills and Attributes

• Extensive experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript technologies.
• In-depth understanding of browser internals and behaviors.
• Strong grasp of software design and architectural patterns.
• Passion for learning new technologies and frameworks.
• Clear comprehension of modern frontend frameworks, accompanied by practical expertise.
• Experience contributing to open-source projects is advantageous.
• Proficient with Git for version control management.
• Experience working alongside external vendors is preferred.

Preferred Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline, paired with 4 to 7 years of professional frontend development experience focused on JavaScript.
