Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Infrastructure

Role Overview

As part of TikTok's critical Technical Infrastructure team, you will manage essential infrastructure systems such as storage, computing, and databases. This advanced Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) position involves resolving complex scalability challenges by applying expert system design and automation techniques. The role encourages working autonomously across diverse projects with significant mentorship, emphasizing skills in coding, algorithms, and architecture for maintaining reliable infrastructure at a large scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead and expand a high-performing SRE engineering team dedicated to developing scalable, production-grade AI Platform systems with a focus on reliability, efficiency, and operational excellence.
• Balance hands-on involvement in system design and deployment with managing team development, performance, and growth.
• Offer strategic technical leadership and architecture guidance to enhance engineering standards, mentor staff, and promote technical excellence throughout collaborative efforts.
• Establish and nurture strong collaborations with engineering teams, business units, and stakeholders to ensure alignment of technical goals with organizational objectives.
• Drive innovation by assessing emerging technologies, adopting modern engineering methodologies, and continually improving the AI Platform infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, software/system engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong foundation in software engineering principles including algorithms and data structures.
• In-depth knowledge of Linux operating systems, distributed storage solutions, networking basics, and system performance tuning.
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Go, or Java, with experience in applying software design patterns and maintaining clean code in production.
• Proven leadership experience in guiding technical teams through complex and evolving project requirements.

Preferred Experience

• More than 5 years in software engineering roles with demonstrated team leadership.
• Hands-on experience with distributed storage technologies such as Key-Value stores, Redis, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Expertise in message queuing systems, including Kafka and RabbitMQ, and familiarity with data processing frameworks.
• Practical knowledge of container orchestration platforms like Kubernetes, microservices, and cloud-native solutions.
• Demonstrated capability in designing, building, and operating extensive distributed systems in production environments.
