Role Overview
The Senior Site Engineer position is a permanent, on-site role located in Fermoy, County Cork, Ireland. This role is responsible for supervising engineering-related tasks and guaranteeing technical accuracy throughout construction projects. Daily responsibilities include layout and setting out of work areas, overseeing site operations, coordinating among project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers, and making certain all activities conform to drawings, specifications, and building codes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee site engineering activities and daily construction operations.
- Coordinate with project management, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate smooth workflow.
- Ensure strict compliance with design drawings, project specifications, and applicable building regulations.
- Conduct quality control inspections, monitor workmanship, and implement health and safety measures.
- Record and report site progress effectively to stakeholders.
- Resolve technical challenges as they arise on site.
- Contribute to the planning and sequencing of works and foster ongoing improvements in site management processes.
- Support and mentor junior engineers and site staff to enhance team performance.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Extensive hands-on experience managing construction site operations and ability to work with cross-disciplinary teams.
- Strong communication skills to effectively liaise with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams, including clear documentation and reporting.
- Proven expertise in quality assurance, including on-site inspections and adherence to project specifications and health and safety protocols.
- Solid structural engineering background with capability to interpret and implement structural drawings and specifications.
- Experience in civil engineering or allied disciplines, with comprehensive knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and standards.
- Possession of a relevant engineering degree or diploma, such as in Civil or Structural Engineering; professional certifications or memberships are a plus.
- Familiarity with engineering and construction software (e.g., AutoCAD), surveying equipment, and standard office software like MS Office.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills coupled with an ability to independently prioritize, make decisions, and operate efficiently in a dynamic site environment.
