Job description
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Search Engineer to lead the development and continuous enhancement of search functionalities within a high-traffic eCommerce environment. This critical position involves combining advanced technical expertise with strategic leadership to improve search relevance, performance, and overall user experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement next-generation search solutions using Elasticsearch and advanced machine learning technologies to deliver intuitive and highly relevant search experiences.
- Enhance search engine ranking and relevance by leveraging insights from search algorithms, user behavior data, and tracking analytics.
- Provide strong technical leadership and mentorship to engineering team members, ensuring rigorous code reviews and promoting best practices in a collaborative setting.
- Employ advanced ML techniques such as XGBoost, sentence transformers, and large language models (LLMs) to continuously augment search personalization and discovery capabilities.
- Develop and track robust evaluation metrics (like NDCG, F1 score, CTR) for both online and offline assessment of search quality, enabling iterative performance improvements.
- Work closely with product owners, data scientists, and cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions and communicate complex concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proficient in Java, Spring Boot framework, and Python programming languages.
- Extensive experience building search systems using Elasticsearch or similar technologies.
- Deep understanding of search engine ranking algorithms and optimization through data analytics and user tracking.
- Practical application of machine learning models such as XGBoost, embedding-based methods (sentence transformers), and LLMs to improve search functionality.
- Knowledge of Natural Language Processing techniques, including entity recognition, query understanding, and semantic search.
- Experience in managing search infrastructures for scalable, high-traffic eCommerce platforms or SaaS products, ensuring performance and reliability.
- Demonstrated proactive attitude with resilience and problem-solving focus.
