Role Summary
This full-time, direct hire role requires candidates to be based in the United Kingdom. Please note that visa sponsorship and relocation support are not provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and support a Scala-based API backend aimed at manufacturing frontline teams.
- Design, construct, and optimize manufacturing workflows through web applications.
- Complete assigned sprint tasks aligned with organizational goals.
- Utilize modern Scala and backend technologies to maintain a cutting-edge platform.
- Provide expertise during production incidents to promptly resolve customer issues.
- Engage in technical discussions and contribute ideas beyond immediate sprint responsibilities.
- Collaborate with colleagues to help the business meet its objectives.
- Produce clean, testable, and maintainable code.
Required Experience and Skills
- Minimum of five years working professionally as a Backend Engineer.
- At least five years of practical experience working with Scala in live production environments.
- Expertise in backend development using Scala and API-first design principles such as OpenAPI.
- Strong knowledge of functional and asynchronous programming using Cats Effect and functional Scala design patterns.
- Experience with data technologies including PostgreSQL and messaging systems like Kafka with Avro, focusing on transactional data access.
- Proficiency with versioned APIs and integrating services.
- Competent in unit and integration testing, producing observable and maintainable code.
- Familiarity with DevOps and cloud technologies such as AWS, Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong adherence to engineering standards including trunk-based development, feature flag usage, and legacy system refactoring.
