Senior Rotating Machinery Engineer

About the Role

This position is integral to executing maintenance operations for rotating machinery including steam turbines, gas turbines, and centrifugal/reciprocating compressors and pumps. The engineer will oversee daily maintenance tasks to ensure the reliability and optimal functioning of the plant, adhering to established engineering practices. This role demands a proactive approach in corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance to minimize unscheduled plant shutdowns and ensure swift job completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and implement periodic, preventive, and corrective maintenance activities for rotating equipment.
• Conduct detailed condition monitoring using vibration analysis, performance trending, and other predictive methods to detect early equipment issues.
• Analyze oils and lubricants to evaluate equipment health and recommend preventive maintenance.
• Apply relevant API standards (API 613, 617, 618, 612) to ensure compliance in maintenance and troubleshooting of compressors and steam turbines.
• Review repair proposals critically, understanding various repair techniques used in steam turbines, compressors, and gas turbines.
• Investigate recurring equipment failures and participate in root cause analyses to recommend effective remedies.
• Identify obsolescence in equipment and coordinate with OEMs for rectification and resolution of problematic components.
• Lead and supervise maintenance teams ensuring high-quality standards and continuous optimal equipment operation.
• Collaborate closely with turnaround and production teams to define work scopes and provide technical support for field activities.
• Contribute to planning and budgeting discussions, ensuring adequate resources for operational, shutdown, and capital expenses, with a focus on cost control.
• Coordinate with planning engineers and supervisors to secure necessary spares and materials for scheduled maintenance.
• Manage ERP system updates related to spare parts, bill of materials, and item specifications.
• Utilize SAP proficiently for work order management, notifications, material reservations, and maintenance history tracking.
• Work with supply chain and contractors for timely procurement and refurbishment of critical spares while maintaining accurate records.
• Manage turnaround work orders via the change management system and engage actively with project modifications relating to the operational area.
• Develop and implement management system procedures ensuring compliance with occupational health, safety, environment, energy, and quality standards.
• Identify and monitor safety risks and environmental impacts pertaining to maintenance activities.
• Participate in plant improvement projects and collaborative studies to enhance operational performance.
• Coach and mentor national staff through direct involvement and on-the-job training initiatives.
• Provide on-call support outside normal working hours to assist plant operations when needed.

Candidate Profile

• Possess a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
• Have a minimum of eight years' relevant experience in a similar capacity, ideally in the fertilizer, petrochemical, or oil and gas sectors.
• Demonstrated expertise in maintenance, monitoring, repair, overhaul, and troubleshooting of rotating machinery and associated auxiliaries.
• Preferred possession of international certifications in condition monitoring (e.g., ISO CAT I-IV, American Institute, Mobius Institute).
• Preferred international certification in oil analysis (e.g., ICML MLA/MLT Levels I-III).
