Job description

About the Employer

Our client is a reputable New Zealand consultancy specialising in project management and infrastructure, supporting both public and private sector clients. They offer expert project and programme management throughout the infrastructure lifecycle, including project planning, business case development, procurement, contract oversight, stakeholder communication, reporting, and delivery.

Known for practical guidance and successful project results, the consultancy partners closely with clients to address complex delivery issues and provide leadership where crucial.

The Role

This role invites an experienced Senior Project Manager to join an established team in Wellington. The candidate will oversee successful management and delivery of infrastructure projects and programmes by collaborating with clients, consultants, contractors, and key stakeholders.

Responsibilities may span from initial planning and business case formulation to procurement, design, construction, and project completion.

You will lead programme, risk, cost, quality, procurement, contract, and stakeholder management efforts, ensuring clients receive clear and commercially sound advice. In this senior position, building strong client relationships, navigating complex project contexts, and driving structured efficient delivery are key.

Role Requirements

  • Demonstrable strong project management experience in infrastructure, construction, engineering, or related fields
  • Proven success managing complex projects across multiple lifecycle phases
  • Comfort and experience working in client-facing and consultancy environments
  • Advanced skills in programme, risk, procurement, contract, and financial management
  • Expertise coordinating multidisciplinary consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills with senior stakeholder reporting experience
  • Sound commercial judgment with the aptitude for early issue identification and pragmatic solutions
  • Collaborative mindset paired with confidence to lead projects independently
  • A relevant tertiary qualification (engineering, construction, project management, or similar) is advantageous

Benefits

This is a chance to contribute meaningfully to a thriving consultancy where you influence projects and client outcomes directly. You will engage with demanding infrastructure projects alongside seasoned professionals who prize practical problem-solving, teamwork, and high-quality results.

The role provides variety, autonomy, and prospects for career advancement in a setting that empowers experienced project managers to work with independence.
