About Matillion and Maia
Matillion is innovating the future of data teams with Maia, an AI agent designed to revolutionize data engineering by automating the creation and maintenance of data products. Trusted by industry leaders like Cisco, DocuSign, and Slack, Maian multiplies the productivity of data teams by leveraging 15 years of data expertise. Originating in Manchester, Matillion now operates globally across the UK, US, and India, backed by over $300 million in funding from prominent investors including General Atlantic, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Battery Ventures.
Role Overview
The Senior Product Manager role centers on leading a crucial segment of the Maia product, blending intricate user challenges, AI advancements, and significant commercial outcomes. The ideal candidate has a passion for creating exceptional agentic AI product experiences and holds rigorous standards for quality, combining a user-first approach with strong data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of a primary Maia product area, identifying the most impactful problems, prioritizing effectively despite incomplete information, and steering efforts to achieve measurable results.
- Establish and uphold high standards for agentic behavior by developing robust evaluation metrics, analyzing output quality, and ensuring excellence.
- Attain deep user insights beyond feature requests to understand workflow pain points and trust-building moments within data teams.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering on technical aspects including models, context, tools like MCP, and orchestration to refine product direction.
- Leverage AI tools extensively in research, synthesis, prototyping, and analysis to enhance productivity without compromising quality.
- Facilitate strong cross-functional collaboration by aligning Engineering, Design, and Go-to-Market teams, while effectively communicating roadmaps and priorities to stakeholders, leadership, and clients.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven success in launching and scaling B2B products that deliver customer value and foster strong adoption.
- Comprehensive understanding of modern AI product components including evaluation methodologies, agentic workflows, context management, and tools like MCP.
- Strong systems thinking capabilities to balance craftsmanship, efficiency, and business impact.
- Excellent judgment when facing ambiguity, adept at making decisive calls with limited data and adapting based on new evidence.
- High proficiency in data literacy, with a focus on metrics-driven decision making grounded in evidence rather than intuition.
- Outstanding communication skills to clearly convey vision, unite cross-functional teams, and confidently engage leadership and customers.
- Well-honed product instincts and a keen sense for quality, maintaining close alignment with user needs and elevating standards.
- Bonus: familiarity with data domains such as integration, warehousing technologies like Snowflake or Databricks, or analytics is advantageous but not mandatory.
Compensation and Benefits
The estimated annual salary for this position ranges from £76,000 to £114,000, with the final offer reflecting relevant expertise, experience, and qualifications demonstrated during hiring.
- Equity participation in the company
- Thirty days of annual leave plus bank holidays
- Five days of paid volunteer leave yearly
- Comprehensive private health insurance
- Life insurance coverage
- Pension scheme
- Access to mental health support services
