Job description
About Workyard
Workyard automates processes between field job sites and office operations for contractors, solving issues like manual timesheets, tedious data entry, incorrect cost coding, and delayed compliance verification. It uses GPS to verify time at crew arrival, automatically codes hours to jobs, and ensures error-free, direct data flow into payroll and accounting systems without manual intervention.
Founded by siblings who managed payroll for over 500 field workers and lacked an effective tool, Workyard now supports thousands of daily clock-ins across US construction firms. The company evolved from a skilled trades staffing marketplace to a SaaS platform highly trusted by contractors through continuous innovation since 2018, growing rapidly with over 70 employees across Australia and the US.
Who We Are
We serve honest construction contractors who have faced unreliable software before and thus demand strong trust earned strictly by proven results. Our reputation is built through word-of-mouth endorsements from foremen who attest to Workyard’s effectiveness, setting a high bar with quick feedback. Our work directly impacts users by saving payroll admins and foremen significant time and effort, enabling them to focus more on their core tasks.
The team values autonomy over pedigree and embraces first-principles reasoning, making this role a great fit for those who thrive in building new solutions without relying on existing playbooks.
Role Overview
As Senior Product Manager, you will own entire product lines rather than a random set of customer feature requests. Your role includes defining and prioritizing problems worth dedicating engineering resources to, establishing clear success metrics, and ensuring strong adoption by contractors.
You will collaborate closely in-office with Product Engineers, ensuring that the solutions not only ship but work effectively, and report directly to the Head of Product as well as work with the CEO, Head of Sales, and Customer Success.
Candidate Profile
We value diverse backgrounds equally, whether you are an experienced senior PM, a founder with your own startup experience, or from engineering/design with customer experience responsibilities. Key qualities include:
- Ability to break down complex problems and create focused, strategic solutions from a first-principles perspective.
- Focus on measurable commercial outcomes, interpreting data and feedback to inform decisions.
- Strong product intuition, distinguishing between functional features and delightful user experiences.
- Comfort leading ambiguous, high-impact projects with a record of navigating uncertainty.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and communicate clear product line strategy, articulating trade-offs and rationale company-wide.
- Translate customer insights and market trends into actionable, outcome-driven plans instead of feature lists with deadlines.
- Continuously monitor the competitive landscape to identify strategic priorities.
- Conduct regular customer discovery including interviews, data analysis, and review of support issues to stay closely connected with user needs.
- Build and refine your own tools and prototypes to validate concepts and accelerate discovery processes.
- Co-own solution details with Product Engineers, balancing trade-offs to define minimum lovable solutions and success criteria.
- Maintain sufficient technical knowledge to engage deeply with engineering trade-off decisions without needing to code.
- Lead product positioning, pricing input, and create all go-to-market materials including release notes, help articles, and customer communications.
- Drive adoption post-launch by monitoring usage metrics, reporting results honestly, and iterating as needed to improve product uptake.
Qualifications and Attributes
- Experience: 4-5+ years in product roles with proven delivery of impactful products, regardless of brand names or prior companies.
- Demonstrated ability to independently identify real problems through direct user engagements, data analysis, and ticket reviews.
- Comfortable working with data directly, including querying and interpreting funnels and sizing opportunities.
- Strong belief that well-built software can improve daily work experiences and that attention to detail matters.
- Excellent written communication with concise, clear documentation suitable for diverse audiences including engineers, executives, and contractors.
- Open-mindedness to adapt when presented with better information, including respectful challenge to technical or commercial assumptions.
- Proficient use of AI tools to augment work without compromising personal judgment and product taste.
- Preferred but not mandatory: industry experience in construction, field services, payroll, or ERP systems; must be genuinely interested in these less-explored sectors.
- Motivated by the impact work can have on improving the daily routines of field workers.
