Job description
About Flatpay
Flatpay is one of Europe's most rapidly expanding fintech firms. Founded in 2022 in Copenhagen, it serves over 100,000 merchants across seven countries including Denmark, Finland, France, Italy, the UK, Germany, and the Netherlands. The company achieved unicorn status with a €1.5 billion valuation, becoming Denmark's fastest-ever unicorn. Flatpay focuses on streamlining business operations through innovative payment solutions.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Product Manager to spearhead the growth of our point-of-sale (POS) products. This role demands transforming intricate merchant requirements into user-friendly, reliable, and commercially viable products. The successful candidate will be deeply involved with customers and cross-functional teams, driving product strategies and shaping the future of our POS platform used daily in thousands of physical venues like restaurants, cafés, retail outlets, and salons across Europe.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage a significant segment of the POS software used by diverse merchants.
- Lead outcome-driven product management rather than feature-focused delivery.
- Engage directly with merchant users to observe and understand real-time operational challenges.
- Translate merchant feedback, business goals, and engineering constraints into clear product directives.
- Prioritize delivering minimum viable products (MVPs) that address core merchant needs.
- Collaborate closely with engineering and design teams to produce high-quality solutions rapidly.
- Analyze product performance using data, customer insights, and market trends to inform decision making.
- Help standardize and enhance product management practices within the organization during scaling.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Minimum six years in product management within software, fintech, payments, POS, SaaS, or analogous complex domains.
- Proven success launching products from inception (0 to 1) and scaling (1 to 10) across multiple European markets.
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and provide clarity to diverse teams.
- Experience working with cross-disciplinary development teams.
- Effective communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Data-informed decision making without overreliance on data.
- Fluent English proficiency; additional European languages such as Danish, French, Italian, or German are advantageous but optional.
- Strong commercial acumen, focusing on adoption, revenue generation, and unit economics beyond mere feature metrics.
- Willingness and ability to spend considerable time on-site with merchants across various markets.
- High literacy in artificial intelligence technologies and experience integrating AI into everyday products.
Preferred Experience
- Familiarity with payment processing or acquiring systems.
- Background in point-of-sale systems development or management.
- Experience with customer-facing merchant products.
- Exposure to omnichannel commerce models.
- Knowledge of subscription and transaction-based business models.
- Understanding of Android-based payment hardware such as PAX, Ingenico, or their equivalents.
Post-Probation Expectations
- Gain in-depth insight into merchant operations and requirements across different countries.
- Collaborate effectively with other product managers and leadership to establish a unified product direction.
- Develop comprehensive understanding of Flatpay's current product lineup and identify areas for enhancement.
- Deliver valuable product improvements appreciated by merchants.
- Build strong cross-functional relationships across product, engineering, design, commercial, and leadership teams.
- Contribute positively to the maturation of Flatpay’s product culture.
Why Join Flatpay?
Flatpay operates in a fast-moving market where reliability and customer expectations are critical, and product decisions directly affect businesses' success. Joining this company offers the chance to influence products impacting thousands of merchants everyday across Europe, working in a setting characterized by rapid growth, swift decision-making, and genuine entrepreneurial spirit.
