Job description

Company Overview

Payward, the parent company behind Kraken and several other financial services platforms, has developed a modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure over the last 15 years, aimed at advancing an open and global financial system.

Team and Platform

Payward Services provides an enterprise-grade infrastructure that streamlines trading, payments, funding, and digital asset services through a unified system. It integrates liquidity, custody, compliance, risk, and settlement functions to reduce operational challenges for fintechs, banks, brokerages, and payment providers.

The Payments & Blockchain team manages the entire flow of funds in and out of Payward's products, coordinating with numerous banking partners, PSPs, and regional payment rails serving millions of users worldwide.

Role Overview

This role involves leading product vision and development for Payward's payments platform, including the backend infrastructure and API layers used by internal clients. The platform features a scalable, multi-tenant payments backend with hosted pages, SDKs, embedded components, and direct APIs to facilitate pay-ins and payouts globally.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the payments platform product vision and roadmap covering backend services and client-facing integration layers.
  • Gather and align requirements from internal stakeholders to enhance the platform’s capabilities and support diverse use cases.
  • Collaborate with engineering to deliver a strategic roadmap with clear milestones for client teams.
  • Prioritize competing demands effectively, communicating trade-offs transparently.
  • Design seamless client onboarding and adoption experiences.
  • Coordinate with banking and partnerships teams to create reusable integrations that serve all Payward businesses.
  • Incorporate compliance, risk, and legal requirements early in the development lifecycle to avoid launch delays.
  • Establish and monitor key platform metrics such as time to launch, client go-live times, rail availability, and payment success rates.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years in product management, preferably in platform, API, or infrastructure roles serving internal developer clients.
  • Solid understanding of payment systems including pay-ins and payouts, PSPs, acquiring banks, and various banking rails like ACH, SEPA, Faster Payments, SWIFT, and local methods.
  • Strong technical skills enabling you to read RFCs, challenge architectural choices, and produce well-respected API documentation.
  • Proven experience delivering developer-oriented products such as APIs, SDKs, or embeddable user interface components.
  • Excellent written communication skills for translating complex systems into clear documentation actionable by product, compliance, and business teams.
  • Ability to manage diverse stakeholders with differing priorities and build consensus without formal authority.
  • Data-driven mindset to set objectives and track platform adoption and performance metrics.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working at or with payment service providers, payment orchestrators, or payments infrastructure companies, including in-house platform development.
  • Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS or B2B2C platforms.
  • Knowledge of cryptocurrency, stablecoins, or on/off-ramps.
  • Experience navigating multiple regulatory entities or licensing frameworks.
