Job description

About MongoDB and Atlas

MongoDB empowers innovators to revolutionize industries through the power of software and data. Atlas is our premier, fully managed, multi-cloud database service that simplifies complex deployment and management of high-availability databases across diverse cloud providers and regions. Atlas features vertical and horizontal scaling, advanced automation to optimize workloads, robust observability and security, and global data distribution with availability in over 125 regions across AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure.

This innovative team has developed groundbreaking features like multi-cloud databases, predictive autoscaling, and intelligent workload management. Moving forward, the team will focus on extending our platform's reach into AI search, retrieval, and application development.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Product Manager to join the Atlas team, based remotely within the Ireland region or at our Dublin office. This role demands close collaboration with engineering, design, marketing, and analytics to shape scalable capabilities that customers rely on and align with business goals. You will investigate customer workload growth patterns, hypothesize scaling limitations, and validate solutions that enhance scalability in Atlas and the MongoDB server.

The core responsibility involves working alongside engineering teams to ensure seamless cluster scaling—from automated vertical scaling to horizontal autoscaling—while maintaining high availability and performance. This entails defining clear scaling policies, ensuring strong performance visibility, and implementing resilient, low-impact scaling actions on our multi-tenant, globally distributed platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the strategic roadmap for pivotal Atlas components ensuring smooth and intuitive user experiences.
  • Implement rigorous tools, processes, and frameworks across diverse engineering functions to support reliable product releases and operational stability.
  • Facilitate collaboration among engineering, marketing, sales, and leadership teams.
  • Lead the team towards informed product decisions based on thorough customer, prospect, and stakeholder research and engagement.
  • Maintain awareness of market trends, competitive landscape, and technological evolution to influence product strategy.
  • Analyze product data to track business impact and iterate for continuous improvement.
  • Work strategically with customer-facing and go-to-market teams in active customer engagements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in product management or similar roles managing complex technical, enterprise products.
  • Strong technical intuition—comfortable engaging with developers, DevOps, and operations engineers, with practical understanding of relevant technologies without needing to write production code.
  • Expertise in at least one advanced technical domain; prior experience in development, operations, or related roles is highly desirable.
  • Proven success in delivering software products tailored for developer audiences.
  • Excellent aptitude for defining and communicating product vision and strategy, translating technical capabilities into business value.
  • Capable decision-making in dynamic environments with a problem-solving mindset to drive initiatives to completion.
  • Collaborative team player with optimism, humility, and enthusiasm for tackling ambiguity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing large-scale, automated, and phased software rollouts that tailor deployments based on environment and customer prioritization.
  • Familiarity with the challenges and regulations within highly regulated customer sectors.
  • Knowledge or hands-on experience with MongoDB databases is a plus.
  • A keen interest in active contribution to innovation efforts.
