Position Overview
ConnectYou is seeking an experienced Senior Primary Design Engineer to join our client's transmission and distribution team based in Adelaide. Reporting to the engineering leadership, this role demands a highly skilled hands-on professional to manage and lead technical design projects from initial concept through to construction. This position involves varied project work, mentorship of junior staff, and active involvement in improving design standards and organizational processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute primary design projects, including equipment selection, layout development, and drafting technical specifications.
- Create and assess engineering drawings, perform calculations, and develop design documentation ensuring compliance with relevant standards and codes.
- Ensure the technical integrity of design outputs from internal and external design teams.
- Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to gather and clarify design needs and constraints.
- Conduct site assessments and inspections to inform and validate design choices.
- Assist in tendering and estimating by preparing scopes, cost evaluations, and providing technical expertise.
- Coordinate design integration with secondary systems and structural, civil, and other disciplinary inputs.
- Guarantee that all designs comply with regulatory, safety, and environmental mandates.
- Provide mentorship and leadership to graduate and junior engineers.
Experience & Expertise
- Extensive experience in primary electrical design within utilities, infrastructure, or industrial sectors.
- A proven history of successfully leading design packages on medium to large-scale engineering projects.
- Strong familiarity with industry codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency with industry-standard design and drafting software.
- Capable of managing multiple project priorities simultaneously.
- Experience liaising directly with clients and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is required.
