Senior Planning & Environment Lawyer

About the Role

Simpson Grierson invites an experienced legal professional to join their nationally acclaimed Planning and Environment division located in Wellington. The team engages extensively across New Zealand, handling some of the nation's most pivotal planning and consenting assignments and offering expert guidance on resource management system reforms.

This position seeks a Senior Associate or Senior Solicitor with robust expertise in resource management and environmental law. Serving a variety of clients in public and private domains including local councils, central government, and infrastructure and urban development stakeholders, the role holds significant professional impact.

Responsibilities

• Engage in prominent urban development and infrastructure legal projects.
• Handle cases related to housing, freshwater, environmental management, strategic planning, policy development, and legal matters under the RMA and local government regulations.
• Contribute to planning changes and litigation including appeals.
• Support clients in adapting to and operating under the new resource management framework, particularly concerning fast track projects.
