Senior Munitions Inspector

Overview

The Senior Munitions Inspector serves as the expert and advisor responsible for leading the United States Air Force (USAF) Munitions Surveillance Program (MSP). This role acts as the central authority managing the department's MSP and overseeing the qualification and certification processes for inspectors according to DAFMAN 21-201 standards. The inspector conducts detailed surveillance inspections of munitions to assess their serviceability, identify hazards, and detect deterioration. This involves evaluating munitions through various methods such as measuring, observing, testing, and classifying, with results recorded in the Theater Integrated Combat Munitions System (TICMS). Ensuring adherence to the Performance Work Statement (PWS) and Amentum's ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer the MSP per DAFMAN 21-201, including training, certifying, and evaluating all assigned inspectors to maintain optimal munitions stockpile reliability.
• Serve as an advisor to the Munitions Superintendent on all MSP-related matters, offering recommended courses of action.
• Oversee surveillance activities and the performance of inspectors to prevent detrimental trends.
• Utilize and interpret TICMS data to guarantee the munitions stockpile records' accuracy.
• Conduct inspections of munitions and containers following 11A-1-10 and other technical directives.
• Ensure compliance with all USAF and host nation explosives safety, AFOSH, and security standards during munitions operations at permanent and temporary site locations.
• Implement emergency control measures and prompt response when necessary.
• Perform all munitions work aligned with quality processes and technical standards, identifying potential issues and applying sustainable solutions.
• Maintain timely and precise documentation of all serviceability and accountability actions.
• Work with Accountability Sections and USAF MASO to resolve discrepancies discovered during surveillance or inventory activities.
• Conduct periodic warehouse inventories, addressing any discrepancies and analyzing for negative trends.
• Integrate USAF custody accounts fully into the master surveillance program.
• Supervise inspection and certification of munitions brass, residues, and containers in line with 11A-1-60 standards.
• Manage reconditioning, repair, and replacement of defective or missing parts on munitions and containers.
• Carry out warehousing and storage of munitions adhering to Department of Defense (DoD) and USAF explosives standards.
• Assess munitions production and equipment to identify and address performance issues or trends.
• Operate and inspect electronic test equipment, metal strapping, stencil machines, heat sealers, pneumatic paint guns, air compressors, and power tools following prescribed guidelines.
• Provide general and explosives safety briefings before initiating explosive operations.
• Perform entry control duties as required.
• Work flexible hours, including standby shifts to support mission needs during both peacetime and combat scenarios.
• Fulfill additional duties as assigned.
• Work environments include offices, maintenance shops, warehouses, and potential extended outdoor periods.

Required Qualifications

• Intermediate knowledge of USAF Supply and Technical Order systems or equivalent from another U.S. Service.
• Intermediate understanding of current Munitions Information Systems (MIS) applicable to Precision-Guided Munitions (PGM).
• Proficient with personal computers using Windows OS and Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment when necessary.
• Valid driver's license from home country and ability to acquire host nation driver's license.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completed formal USAF Munitions Systems training or equivalent from other U.S. Services.
• Eligibility to meet Senior Munitions Inspector prerequisites as detailed in DAFMAN 21-201.
• Minimum of 2 years' recent experience (within 48 months) as a USAF Munitions Inspector or completion of relevant AETC in-resident or Mobile Training Team course within 48 months.
• At least seven years’ experience working with USAF Military Munitions or equivalent.
• Minimum of five years combined supervising USAF munitions activities and Materiel Handling Equipment (MMHE) or equivalent experience.
• Capability to attend the USAF Munitions Inspector Course.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret US Government Clearance; US citizenship is required.
• Required to use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with task-specific protocols.
• Physically fit to perform required duties, including lifting/pushing/pulling a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
• Normal color vision and depth perception required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in USAF munitions storage, maintenance, control, and inspection procedures.
• Knowledge of TICMS, MC2, TMRS, and IMDS/DPAS for munitions and MMHE management and usage.
• Intermediate experience operating forklifts and tractor-trailers.
• Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) degree in Munitions Management favored.
