Senior Mechanical Estimator

About the Role

Glanua is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Estimator to be based at their Head Office in Loughrea, Co. Galway. This pivotal role focuses on supporting tender efforts for major municipal water and wastewater programs, including partnerships with Uisce Éireann, AMP8 frameworks, Thames Water, United Utilities, and Yorkshire Water. The successful candidate will shape competitive, well-informed proposals that highlight technical excellence and commercial awareness.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce precise, thoroughly supported mechanical estimates derived from drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
• Contribute actively to design development by evaluating constructability, installation approaches, material choices, and identifying innovative opportunities.
• Offer early cost guidance during tender phases to aid in option analysis and maximize value for money.
• Ensure rigorous adherence to risk management, commercial governance, and approval protocols, documenting all processes clearly.
• Participate in preparing tender program schedules, resource plans, and staff allocations aligned with project delivery requirements.
• Collaborate with procurement teams to formulate sourcing strategies, select suppliers and subcontractors, and negotiate favorable commercial terms.
• Monitor sector trends, mechanical systems, installation techniques, and market changes, integrating this knowledge into tender competitiveness and cost modeling.
• Develop and enhance financial models for framework bids, including staff rate setting and commercial scenario evaluations.
• Utilize Glanua's cost coding system to facilitate cost tracking, benchmarking, and continuous improvements in estimating frameworks.
• Provide informative feedback aimed at improving cost databases, production rates, and estimation processes.

Requirements and Experience

• At least 15 years of mechanical estimating experience within water, wastewater, or allied infrastructure fields.
• Proven ability to develop detailed, competitive estimates for complex treatment plant projects.
• Experience with public utilities such as Uisce Éireann or UK water companies is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical skills paired with meticulous attention to detail.
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals, treatment systems, and installation methodologies.
• Proficiency using estimating software, digital takeoff tools, and Microsoft Office suites.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills suited for a multidisciplinary collaborative environment.
• Capability to juggle multiple project deadlines efficiently within a fast-paced tender context.
