The Equipment Development Engineering (EDE) group at Seagate Technology is expanding and seeks passionate Automation Alchemist Enthusiasts to join their innovative team. EDE develops cutting-edge, intelligent, automated manufacturing equipment capable of self-sensing, analyzing, decision-making, and learning.

This integrated team comprises experts across mechanical, embedded systems, electrical, software, and vision disciplines, creating precision automated assembly and vision inspection machinery. They continuously integrate Industrial IoT, AI, machine learning, and data analytics to achieve smart, future-ready manufacturing plants.

About the Role

• Lead complete mechanical development lifecycle from concept and requirements definition through design, build, validation, installation, commissioning, and production handover.
• Define system requirements, acceptance criteria, interfaces, design margins, and manage technical risks.
• Design and review machine layouts, precision mechanisms, motion systems, tooling, guarding, and access features.
• Conduct advanced calculations, simulations, tolerance analyses, experiments, and verify designs.
• Manage formal design reviews, risk assessments, technical trade studies, and configuration changes.
• Coordinate mechanical engineering tasks across multidisciplinary teams including electrical, software, controls, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers.
• Lead complex root cause investigations involving intertwined mechanical, electrical, process, or control factors.
• Plan technical aspects, resources, risk management, milestones, and deliverables for projects or workstreams.
• Create comprehensive equipment documentation such as specifications, test plans, reports, drawings, manuals, maintenance plans, and troubleshooting guides.
• Drive improvements in equipment reliability, yield, throughput, serviceability, standardization, and cost efficiency.
• Evaluate supplier capabilities, review technical proposals, and guide qualification of critical components or assemblies.
• Mentor junior engineers, provide technical guidance, and promote robust engineering practices and knowledge sharing.

Candidate Profile

• Proven record leading machine-level or complex mechanical system development from concept to operational deployment.
• Strong skills in design analysis, validation planning, root cause analysis, and managing technical risks.
• Effective communicator able to lead cross-functional discussions and clarify decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Willingness to travel as needed to support operational and project requirements.

Experience and Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• Proficient at interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills suited for collaborative engineering environments.
• Typically 5 to 10 years’ experience in mechanical design, automation equipment, precision machinery, or manufacturing engineering.

Location and Travel

Position is based in Woodlands, Singapore with no regular travel required.
