Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer based in Dublin to contribute to designing ruggedized edge technology hardware. The successful candidate will lead mechanical enclosure design using various manufacturing processes such as sheet metal, machining (turned/milled), injection molding, casting, and extrusion. This senior position also involves project leadership and mentorship of junior engineers.

Primary Duties

• Design and engineer mechanical enclosures using diverse manufacturing methods including sheetmetal, turned/milled, injection molded, cast, and extruded components.
• Collaborate closely with hardware engineers regarding PCBA and cable configurations.
• Create and manage parts data within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
• Liaise with external suppliers for fabrication of custom parts.
• Select and source off-the-shelf components for prototype construction.
• Assemble and disassemble product prototypes, develop build instructions and product documentation.
• Validate designs through environmental testing to standards such as MIL-810-H at third-party test labs.
• Steer prototypes from concept to final production-ready designs.
• Define and hand over detailed mechanical bill of materials (BOM) to New Product Introduction (NPI) teams through the PLM system.
• Provide continuous engineering support throughout the entire product lifecycle.
• Maintain accurate product development documentation at all stages.
• Conduct product inspections, failure investigations, and precise part measurements.
• Coordinate with Production Test and Quality Assurance teams during development and post-launch.

Required Qualifications

• A mechanical engineering degree is mandatory.
• At least 7 years of design experience within a Research and Development setting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience or knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Creo Parametric, Siemens NX or equivalent.
• Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management tools like Creo Windchill or Teamcenter is advantageous.
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP Business One or Oracle is desirable but not necessary.
