Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Overview

AIR Sligo, a division of the global AIR Group, is seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Mechanical Design Engineer specializing in automation. Established in 2005, AIR Sligo delivers bespoke automation solutions to prominent manufacturing firms worldwide, recognized for inventive and adaptable approaches.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the design team to create innovative concepts based on client requirements.
• Create 3D designs of mechatronic equipment encompassing mechanisms, transfer systems, servo systems, robotics, pneumatics, electrical components, and safety guarding systems.
• Participate directly in the construction and debugging phases to ensure designs satisfy performance criteria.
• Manage large projects and coordinate cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide guidance and instructions to machine build technicians to realize design specifications.
• Ensure alignment with customer objectives and end goals.
• Develop and implement process improvements for current automation machinery.
• Prepare comprehensive tooling drawings and pneumatic schematics.
• Coordinate with suppliers to procure necessary components.
• Engage with customers regarding requirement specifications and project milestones.
• Compose detailed safety risk assessments and Failure Mode Effects Analyses (FMEAs).
• Produce machine documentation that complies with EU regulatory standards.
• Adhere to project delivery timelines.
• Maintain clear communication within the technical team concerning job specifications and ongoing issues.

Requirements

• Possess a relevant engineering degree.
• Have at least 4 years of pertinent experience, including hands-on involvement in key automation projects with responsibilities for design approval, installation, and commissioning.
• Demonstrate extensive background in machine design roles.
• Proficient in advanced 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks.
• Exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills to handle daily technical discussions.
• Be a self-motivated individual with meticulous attention to detail and accountability for meeting project benchmarks and schedules.
• Show enthusiasm for engineering advancements and keep current with the forefront of automation technology.
• Project management experience is a plus.
• Proven ability in problem-solving and delivering effective solutions.
• Capacity to take initiative and apply innovative thinking.
• Hold a valid driving licence and willingness to travel as necessary.
