Key Responsibilities
- Select appropriate materials for both offshore and onshore facilities, factoring in environmental corrosiveness, temperature, and pressure conditions.
- Develop and apply corrosion control strategies including cathodic protection, coating systems, and chemical inhibitors.
- Advise on compatibility of materials and coatings with handled fluids and gases to prevent degradation.
- Design and implement integrity management programs such as risk-based inspection (RBI) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on material failures and propose corrective solutions.
- Evaluate ageing assets and recommend fitness-for-service (FFS) measures.
- Ensure adherence to international standards including NACE, ASME, API, ISO, and ASTM, along with regional and client-specific requirements.
- Support FEED, detailed design, and EPC stages focusing on material and corrosion aspects.
- Collaborate with process, mechanical, and piping teams to integrate corrosion mitigation into design outputs.
- Review and approve material requisitions, technical bid evaluations, and vendor documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Mandatory to possess or obtain MME (Ministry of Municipality and Environment) engineering accreditation within probation period.
- Highly beneficial to have NACE certification (e.g., CIP Level 3, CP Technologist, Corrosion Specialist) or an equivalent qualification.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or willingness to pursue it considered advantageous.
Industry Experience
- Experienced in materials and corrosion engineering with a strong focus on offshore and onshore oil and gas projects.
- Demonstrated involvement in FEED, detailed engineering, and EPC project phases.
- Knowledge of LNG, FPSO, and subsea system operations is a plus.
- In-depth understanding of material characteristics, corrosion mechanisms, and mitigation.
- Competence in corrosion modeling software such as ECE, NORSOK, or similar.
- Experience designing cathodic protection systems including impressed current and sacrificial anode approaches.
- Insight into welding and fabrication techniques and their effect on material integrity.
Technical Tools
- Proficient with engineering software like ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalents for stress and materials analysis.
- Familiarity with RBI and asset integrity management platforms such as DNV Synergi and API RBI.
