Senior Manager Project Estimating

Role Summary

The Senior Manager Project Estimating will take charge of the estimation process for complex and large engineering and construction projects, ensuring all estimates are precise, competitive, and aligned with project needs. This role involves overseeing the estimating process from an initial appraisal of project requirements through to the final submission. Close collaboration with departments such as Engineering, Project Management, Procurement, and other stakeholders is essential. Additionally, this position will lead cross-disciplinary estimating efforts, enhance cost benchmarking and estimating techniques, and mentor the estimating team.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise the entire estimating workflow from obtaining project requirements to submitting final estimates.
• Prepare estimation plans and timelines, specifying deliverables, duties, and critical milestones.
• Analyze tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and scope to define the full estimation boundaries.
• Coordinate and integrate estimates from multiple disciplines including Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical fields.
• Create detailed first-principle estimates and assess supplier and subcontractor price quotes against internal standards.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, Project Management, and Procurement teams to clarify project scope, detect gaps, and gather necessary details.
• Set suitable allowances and assess risks and opportunities related to estimation.
• Detect value engineering possibilities to enhance the competitiveness of overall projects.
• Lead estimate reviews by presenting underlying assumptions, potential risks, and recommendations to senior management and clients.
• Manage estimate evolution and revisions across various design stages.
• Develop and update regional cost rates, productivity benchmarks, and historic estimating records.
• Ensure adherence to established estimating standards, procedures, and methodologies.
• Assist in transferring finalized estimates to Project Operations and Commercial teams post-award.
• Guide, mentor, and nurture estimators and junior personnel while encouraging standardization in estimating methods and ongoing improvements.

Educational and Professional Requirements

• A degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline or an equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of 12 years’ experience in estimating, with at least 5 years in managerial roles within estimating.
• Solid background in handling estimates for fast-paced design and construction projects.
• Proven track record in creating estimate plans and overseeing estimating tasks through to completion.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary estimates covering Civil, Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical segments.
• Deep understanding of first-principle estimating, cost planning, benchmarking, and value engineering principles.
• Skilled in conducting commercial reviews and presentations with senior leadership and directly engaging customers.
• Experience working with both open-book and fixed-price/lump-sum contracts.
• Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and specialized estimating software; competence with take-off software is a plus.
• Exposure to estimating ATF, BLS, or DTC type projects, and managing large-scale project estimates valued above USD 500 million is desirable.
• Exceptional analytical, numerical, leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
