Senior Manager Internal Audit - Construction Projects

About the Role

Power International Holding is looking for a seasoned Senior Internal Audit Manager to enhance the Group Internal Audit department in Qatar. The position requires leading risk-based internal audits focusing on governance, risk, internal controls, and project oversight related to construction projects. The manager will support leadership by independently evaluating risks across operational, financial, and regulatory areas in complex construction and EPC environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and conduct internal audits aligned with the Institute of Internal Auditors standards, designing annual audit schedules around risk priorities.
• Review the effectiveness of governance, risk management, and internal controls, providing actionable insights for improvement.
• Audit the entire construction project lifecycle: planning, design, procurement, contract management, execution, and closeout.
• Analyze project cost controls, budgeting, forecasting, and cost-to-complete metrics.
• Examine procurement procedures including bidding, vendor evaluation, and contract awards.
• Develop risk control matrices and test control design and operational effectiveness.
• Perform field audits including interviews and control testing, delivering clear reports and follow-ups on remedial actions.
• Collaborate closely with project directors, finance, commercial, and procurement teams providing assurance and advisory support.
• Lead, mentor, and grow the internal audit team to uphold standards and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Business, or comparable fields.
• Preferred certifications: CIA, CPA, ACCA, CFE, CMA, or similar professional credentials.
• Minimum 8-10 years’ experience in internal audit, risk, compliance, or assurance focusing on construction or EPC sectors.
• Strong background in auditing project controls, commercial, procurement, contract and claim management.
• Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle is a plus.

Technical and Behavioral Skills

• Expertise in IIA auditing standards and methodologies.
• Proficient in risk assessment, risk control matrices, and audit testing techniques.
• Knowledgeable in construction project controls, EPC contracts, financial governance, and compliance.
• Excellent leadership, analytical thinking, communication, and stakeholder engagement abilities.
• Capable of independent work with professional scepticism and a high attention to detail.

Preferred Experience

Experience with major construction contractors, infrastructure development, industrial construction, and engineering firms is highly desirable. Ideal candidates have led comprehensive audits across project controls, procurement, contract management, claims, and variations in large construction or EPC organizations.
