Job description
About Scandit and the Role
Scandit empowers various industries by automating workflows, improving operations and boosting efficiency through innovative computer vision technology. We are building next-generation retail solutions focused on improving profit margins through operational insights and automation based on computer vision.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Computer Vision and Machine Learning Engineer to lead the development of video-based action recognition capabilities for retail environments. This role involves end-to-end responsibility from data collection and annotation strategies to model development and production deployment. The position requires collaboration with product, data, and engineering teams to validate assumptions and optimize model performance in real-world settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and prioritize technical experiments to address performance objectives such as precision, recall, and latency for CV models operating in retail settings
- Develop and maintain end-to-end vision and machine learning pipelines, covering data ingestion, preprocessing, training, evaluation, and deployment on video data
- Design and improve human annotation processes to ensure high-quality labeled datasets from video streams
- Work closely with product owners and engineering leaders to refine requirements, set milestones, and translate business needs into technical roadmaps
- Research, select, adapt, and optimize state-of-the-art computer vision models targeting suspicious behavior and action recognition in unstructured environments
- Provide technical leadership and help define best practices for video-based CV applications; contribute to team hiring and growth
Candidate Profile
- University degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or related technical field; advanced qualifications are advantageous
- Extensive hands-on experience in designing, training, evaluating, and deploying computer vision and machine learning models in production systems
- Demonstrated success in building commercial, end-to-end CV/ML products from concept to launch, especially for video-based action or behavior recognition applications (retail, autonomous checkout, etc.)
- Strong familiarity with video processing pipelines and temporal understanding, including experience with vision transformers and fine-tuning vision-language models is a plus
- Proven software engineering skills using Python and contemporary machine learning and computer vision frameworks; comfortable handling real-world noisy datasets
- Capable of working effectively and iteratively in uncertain, fast-paced environments, balancing priorities and rapidly validating concepts
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams; fluent English (minimum B2 level) is required
- Must have authorization to work at the specified location
Additional Assets
- Experience dealing with GDPR-compliant, privacy-conscious data pipelines, particularly handling video data
- Knowledge or experience with computer vision annotation tools and workflow management
- Previous work in retail or autonomous retail environments employing computer vision technologies
Employee Benefits and Culture
- Opportunity to work with a highly skilled, innovative team passionate about cutting-edge technology
- Participation in hackathons fostering creativity and learning
- Flexible work arrangements including office, hybrid, or fully remote options
- A supportive, people-first company culture with diverse global teams
- Company-wide celebrations including global outings and holiday events
- Paid birthday leave
- Attractive individual equity plans within a high-growth organization
- Recognized as a "Great Place to Work" in seven countries
- Modern office facilities optimized for hybrid working available in various European locations
