Job description
Position Overview
Best Practice Lawyers seeks a Senior Lawyer to join their general practice team, entrusted with managing a senior-level caseload from instruction to resolution. This role is ideal for a legal professional either with a broad general practice background or specializing in areas such as property, commercial law, dispute resolution, or relationship property. The emphasis is on substantial experience and sound judgment over specialization.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse caseload including residential and rural property transactions, subdivisions, cross-lease conversions, and refinancing.
- Handle commercial and business matters like sales, purchases, leases, and advisory work for local enterprises.
- Provide advice and representation in relationship property and separation cases with sensitivity and precision.
- Administer trusts, wills, enduring powers of attorney, and estate management matters.
- Engage in dispute resolution activities in line with relevant expertise.
Work Style and Caseload Management
From the outset, you will take over an active portfolio of cases while progressively developing your own client base through networking, educational efforts, and community involvement. Marketing support is provided to foster client relationships and referrals. Lawyers have autonomy over their client interactions and case management.
Working Hours and Environment
Typical office hours are from 8:30am to 5:30pm, with no expectation for extended hours, weekend work, or excessive performance targets. The firm prioritizes maintaining a healthy work-life balance to ensure quality work.
About Best Practice Lawyers
Established and led by Trish Amor-Davy, with over 20 years of expertise in property, relationship property, dispute resolution, and general law, the firm operates from offices in Foxton and Waikanae. It represents a collaborative, community-oriented, and woman-owned practice that values both professional excellence and personal well-being.
Autonomy and Influence
- You will manage your own cases and client relationships independently.
- Decision-making authority regarding case handling rests with you.
- Your contributions are valued and have a direct impact on firm operations.
- The organizational structure allows close connection to principal leadership without unnecessary bureaucracy.
Candidate Profile
Ideal candidates are accomplished legal professionals with a minimum of 4 years PQE, possessing senior-level competence in property, commercial law, relationship property, wills, trusts, estates, or dispute resolution. Applicants should be client-focused, exhibit strong interpersonal skills, demonstrate commercial acumen, and possess an ability to simplify complex legal matters. Self-motivation and a preference for autonomy over supervision are essential. Experience in staff management or leadership is advantageous but not required. An existing client or referral base is beneficial, though not mandatory.
Location and Flexibility
The position is based in Foxton with flexible working arrangements, including remote and hybrid options, flexible hours, and occasional use of the Waikanae office. Foxton offers proximity to regional locations such as Foxton Beach, Horowhenua, Kāpiti, and Palmerston North, with ongoing infrastructure improvements facilitating travel to Wellington.
