Team Overview
The iOS Engineering group plays a vital role in enhancing experiences for over 2 million users via the Everand and Scribd apps. Everand offers a Netflix-like experience with access to more than 7 million digital titles, including ebooks, audiobooks, podcasts, and magazines, while Scribd features over 100 million user-uploaded documents. Within Growth, the Retention & Monetization team drives user engagement along the journey, focusing on subscription flows, paywalls, and retention strategies to optimize revenue and user value.
Role Summary
The Senior iOS Engineer will lead technical efforts for the iOS platform in the Growth Retention & Monetization team, handling subscription management, paywall creation, and retention features across both Everand and Scribd apps. Core responsibilities include implementing in-app purchase mechanisms using StoreKit, managing A/B tests, collaborating with backend and cross-platform teams, stabilizing the app, reducing technical debt, and mentoring peers.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrates a passion for crafting clean, scalable Swift code with expertise in SwiftUI and UIKit.
- Acts as a technical owner, guiding project direction, decomposing complex tasks, and removing blockers for the team.
- Fosters collaboration through transparent and frequent communication with cross-functional partners to align goals.
- Balances business priorities with sound technical solutions pragmatically.
- Possesses a user-centric mindset transforming insights into impactful features.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience delivering public-facing iOS applications at scale.
- Strong command of Swift as well as experience with SwiftUI and UIKit.
- Comfortable navigating mature codebases containing Objective-C.
- Proficient in implementing in-app purchases/subscription features with StoreKit and understanding related App Store policies.
- Experience designing and integrating APIs, including REST and optionally GraphQL.
- Proven track record reducing technical debt and upgrading legacy code without compromising delivery speed.
- Excellent communication skills with experience leading technical projects collaboratively.
Technical Expertise
- Primary languages and frameworks: Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit
- Secondary language: Objective-C
- Payment integrations: StoreKit and StoreKit 2, App Store subscriptions
- Testing frameworks: XCTest, XCUITest or equivalents
- API integration approaches: RESTful APIs, JSON, GraphQL
- Development tools: Xcode, Git, iOS CI/CD pipelines
Additional Desired Skills
- Experience with subscription lifecycle features such as paywalls, free trials, cancellation workflows, and win-back mechanisms.
- Familiarity with experimentation platforms like Statsig and product analytics tools.
- Knowledge of web technologies including JavaScript and backend frameworks such as Ruby on Rails to facilitate cross-stack collaboration.
- Exposure to authentication frameworks such as Auth0.
- An interest in collaborating across platforms including Android and web teams.
Compensation and Employment Conditions
Salaries vary by location and are based on market benchmarks, skill, education, and other factors. In Canada, the salary range for this level is approximately CAD 159,000 to CAD 198,500.
