Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer skilled in Haskell or PureScript to join a top-tier tech team located in Dublin. This position focuses on developing software and engineering platforms powering next-generation streaming and digital applications that serve millions of users globally.

Team and Technology Environment

The Dublin engineering unit tackles complex issues involving high throughput backend services, distributed and streaming platforms, automotive and advertising technology, data analytics, and large-scale cloud-native infrastructure. Haskell or PureScript expertise is essential, and while Scala knowledge is not mandatory, the incumbent will receive training and support to grow their Scala skills, including experience with the Typelevel functional ecosystem.

Responsibilities

• Create scalable, performant, and durable backend systems primarily using Haskell or PureScript.
• Apply functional programming principles such as strong typing, referential transparency, and composability.
• Work with concurrency and asynchronous effectful programming models.
• Participate in architecture and system design reviews.
• Drive technical standards and influence platform direction.
• Build and maintain APIs and services with high quality and reliability.
• Lead automated testing, integration, and ensure software quality.
• Manage and resolve production-level issues and author technical documentation.
• Collaborate with team members and mentor junior engineers.
• Own projects end-to-end, contributing from design through deployment.
• Engage in on-call rotations supporting production systems.
• Expand expertise in Scala and functional Scala libraries through training and hands-on work.

Qualifications and Experience

• At least 5 years in professional software development.
• Proven commercial experience with Haskell or PureScript.
• Solid understanding of functional programming concepts.
• Background in building backend or distributed systems.
• Experience with strongly typed languages and concurrency paradigms.
• Strong software architecture and system design knowledge.
• Familiarity with operating production-grade software and RESTful APIs.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Motivated to learn Scala and related functional ecosystems.

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Advanced proficiency in Haskell or PureScript and functional programming idioms.
• Knowledge of referential transparency, algebraic data types, and composable design.
• Experience designing scalable, fault-tolerant distributed applications.
• Hands-on familiarity with cloud services, especially AWS, Kubernetes, and container technologies.
• Exposure to observability, monitoring, and incident management practices.
• Experience with streaming, event-driven architectures, and data-intensive platforms.
• Background in automotive, media, advertising, or consumer tech industries is advantageous.
• Previous experience or knowledge of Scala, Typelevel, ZIO, Cats ecosystem is a plus.

Work Arrangement and Eligibility
