Job description

Job Overview

This role involves providing geological support throughout exploration, appraisal, and development drilling activities for the Biogenic-Shallow Gas Project. The Senior Geologist is responsible for supervising geological operations onsite, including interpreting subsurface and drilling data to facilitate decision-making and to ensure that drilling objectives are achieved safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare pre-drill materials such as offset well correlation panels; participate in pre-spud and peer meetings; ensure service contractors optimize tools and methods economically to meet drilling targets.
  • Oversee and provide technical assistance for wellsite geological activities including mudlogging, wireline and logging-while-drilling (LWD/MWD), coring, directional drilling, and stimulation processes.
  • Offer expertise in well planning, execution, and post-drilling analysis, collaborating closely with geologists, geomodelers, and geophysicists to refine geological models and reduce uncertainty for well prognosis.
  • Advise and oversee drilling designs, well logging acquisitions, formation evaluation, and stimulation methods, integrating geological markers into operational plans.
  • Work with geomechanics specialists and drilling engineers to assess pore pressure, fracture gradients, and wellbore stability, guiding appropriate well design decisions.
  • Conduct real-time data monitoring and interpretation while drilling to detect geologic hazards, select stratigraphic tops, and adjust drilling plans accordingly.
  • Maintain clear coordination and communication with project teams and operators, ensuring adherence to vertical, deviated, and horizontal drilling plans.
  • Supervise collection, analysis, and quality control of geological samples, incorporating petrophysical and geochemical data into well evaluations.
  • Track well trajectory accuracy against geological targets, perform stratigraphic correlation, and collaborate with service providers for geosteering operations to maximize reservoir contact.
  • Create geological correlation panels and cross sections as needed; maintain rigorous geological data quality control and reporting systems.
  • Support selection and planning of intervals for perforation, testing, and stimulation by integrating subsurface data with reservoir and petrophysical inputs.
  • Coordinate coring operations from planning through sample handling to ensure safe, efficient, and effective core acquisition.
  • Finalize geological markers and surveys in collaboration with project teams and upload maintain data in corporate databases.
  • Prepare comprehensive Geological End of Well Reports and post-drilling summaries.
  • Assist with optimizing field development by contributing to location selection, PAD drilling plans, trajectory reviews, and geological model updates.
  • Implement and enforce safety practices consistent with company policies and regulatory requirements; promote health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Engage in geological maturation studies and well evaluation activities for conventional and unconventional plays; provide advice on study scopes and data collection.
  • Stay updated on geological software advancements, evaluate and recommend technological acquisitions to enhance project outcomes, and participate in relevant industry conferences and seminars.
  • Lead and coordinate all related operational activities within the designated section to meet objectives.
  • Train and develop junior staff to build expertise within the team.
  • Contribute inputs for budgeting, monitor expenditures, and ensure cost control aligned with project goals.
  • Implement policies, systems, and procedures adhering to company and international standards.
  • Participate in performance management to meet departmental objectives under established frameworks.
  • Innovate and refine operational tools and processes to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Maintain effective internal and external communications with project and operations teams, consultants, and contractors.
