Job description

About Midana Exploration Company

Midana Exploration Company (MEC), a subsidiary of Australia's leading private mining firm Hancock Prospecting, operates at the forefront of the Middle East's booming mining industry. Based in the Arabian-Nubian Shield region, MEC focuses on swiftly and safely advancing high-potential exploration targets into operational mining projects. Utilizing Hancock Prospecting’s expertise in exploration, mega-project execution, technology, and operations, alongside strong local partnerships and joint ventures with noted Saudi resource firms, MEC is setting new standards for resource development and contributing significantly to Saudi Arabia's mining sector growth.

Role Overview

The Senior Geologist in Generative Exploration will spearhead prospect and campaign-level exploration initiatives, transforming regional geological concepts and prospectivity outcomes into ranked, actionable, and drill-ready targets. The role demands adherence to stringent safety, data integrity, and geological interpretation standards throughout all activities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and oversee prospect-level geological mapping, sampling, prospecting, trenching, and initial drilling within approved generative exploration programs.
  • Translate broad regional geological models and prospectivity results into explicit testable hypotheses, field investigations, decision parameters, and prioritized follow-up plans.
  • Coordinate integrated fieldwork involving geology, geochemistry, geophysics, and drilling to establish and assess exploration targets.
  • Combine field data with geological, structural, geochemical, geophysical, remote sensing, and historical datasets to develop solid regional, camp, and target-scale interpretations.
  • Create detailed target models encompassing lithology, stratigraphy, structural geology, alteration zones, and mineralization; update target rankings as new evidence surfaces.
  • Employ Geographic Information Systems (GIS), 3D modeling, and predictive targeting/prospectivity tools to identify exploration gaps, challenge existing interpretations, and define the highest-impact subsequent field actions.
  • Lead geological teams and field units, ensuring safe, disciplined, and effective operations, thorough field documentation, and secure sample management.
  • Implement sampling protocols and quality assurance/control standards; validate field and laboratory data; and promptly escalate critical geological, health and safety, access, or data quality issues.
  • Develop technical reports, target sheets, maps, sections, and concise campaign recommendations; mentor junior geologists in best practices for mapping, targeting, logging, and data management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 6 to 12 years of progressive mineral exploration experience, emphasizing greenfield or generative exploration with strong field-based target generation capabilities.
  • Proven expertise in planning and executing geological mapping, geochemical sampling, geophysical follow-up, and early-stage drilling and trenching campaigns.
  • Ability to synthesize multidisciplinary datasets into prioritized targets and clear next-step recommendations.
  • Leadership experience managing small field teams or specific exploration projects, preferably in remote settings; prior exposure to the Arabian-Nubian Shield region is advantageous.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related earth sciences field; Master’s degree or higher is a plus.
  • Membership in professional geoscience organizations is encouraged.
  • Familiarity with exploration data quality assurance/control processes and reporting standards such as JORC or NI 43-101 is preferred.
  • Proficient use of GIS tools and digital field-data systems; experience with 3D geological modeling and geochemical interpretation software is desirable.

Technical and Functional Expertise

  • Deep understanding of greenfield exploration, mineral systems analysis, target generation, and detailed geological mapping at the prospect level.
  • Competence in interpreting structural geology, lithology, alteration patterns, and designing field tests to distinguish between competing exploration hypotheses.
  • Integrative skills combining geological, geochemical, geophysical, and remote sensing data to develop and rank target models.
  • Experience with GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or QGIS; 3D modeling software like Leapfrog or Micromine; geochemical interpretation tools like ioGAS; and digital workflow management for field data.
  • Proficiency in prospectivity mapping and predictive targeting, including critically evaluating model outputs rather than relying on rankings without scrutiny.
  • Expertise in designing sampling programs, maintaining sample chain-of-custody, enforcing QA/QC procedures, preparing concise technical reports, and managing practical field logistics and contractor coordination.

Work Environment

  • This position involves field operations with extended rotations at exploration camps during active generative exploration campaigns.
  • The role requires frequent travel within Saudi Arabia and the capability to operate safely in remote environments, including proficiency in 4WD and off-road driving.
  • Flexibility in work location and assignment may be needed as Midana’s exploration portfolio within Saudi Arabia evolves and expands.
