Job description
About FRYTE Mobility
FRYTE Mobility is revolutionizing electric logistics by connecting freight transport with the energy grid. Based in Munich, the company develops a SaaS platform that helps fleet operators, dispatchers, and charging point operators plan, optimize, and monetize electric truck charging while aligning fleet efficiency with grid stability. Their overarching goal is to replace fossil fuels with sustainable electricity and speed up the adoption of e-trucks.
Role Overview
This is a highly technical individual contributor position focused on backend architecture and system robustness. The engineer will serve as the main technical expert handling the backend's most challenging design tasks, elevating code quality and mentoring the team without management responsibilities. Ideal candidates value ownership, deep technical influence, and engineering excellence over hierarchical progression.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead backend architecture design and ensure production readiness as the platform scales.
- Design and maintain stable, versioned multi-domain APIs involving numerous integrations and real-time data streams.
- Implement observability tools such as logging, tracing, and metrics to guarantee reliable operation.
- Set high standards in code quality through design patterns, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and thorough code reviews.
- Mentor the development team, helping unblock technical challenges and promote growth.
- Adapt fluidly to roles in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, and frontend fixes when required.
Technical Stack
- Backend: Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL with PostGIS extensions.
- Frontend: React and TypeScript.
- Infrastructure: Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience owning and operating production backend systems developed in Python with FastAPI and PostgreSQL.
- Strong system design skills focused on boundaries, failure modes, and versioning prior to implementation.
- Architectural expertise preferably in domains related to charging infrastructure, fintech, scheduling, or complex integration-heavy systems.
- Comfort with cross-domain responsibilities including backend, infrastructure, and frontend areas as the problem demands.
- Natural inclination to mentor and share knowledge to elevate team capabilities.
Additional Advantages
- Familiarity with GitHub Actions and observability tooling (tracing, logging, metrics).
- Experience with Site Reliability Engineering practices.
- Active participation or contributions in open-source software projects.
Work Environment and Culture
- The workplace embraces asynchronous communication to maximize productivity and minimize unnecessary meetings.
- High autonomy and responsibility with trust to make independent decisions.
- Focus on deep work with long periods of concentration and minimal interruptions.
- Hands-on approach with a culture of continuous improvement without bureaucratic hurdles.
- Supportive social environment featuring quality coffee and meaningful interactions.
Benefits and Perks
- Impactful work contributing to decarbonizing logistics.
- Opportunity for significant ownership driving platform architecture at a critical growth phase.
- Clear individual contributor career path from Senior to Staff Engineer with mentorship from founders.
- Solving technically challenging problems involving geospatial data, real-time optimization, and multi-party integration.
- Flexible hybrid work model combining focused deep work and access to an office in central Munich.
- Employee benefits include JobRad bicycle program, gym membership, family-friendly policies, and premium hardware provision.
