Job description
Overview
As a Senior Estimator for Dragados on the Euston Station development, you will ensure that all target cost plans are comprehensive, fully integrated, cost-effective, and benchmarked using both internal and external data. This role entails close collaboration with various departments and managing detailed cost estimations to support the project’s financial success.
Key Duties
- Assist the business development team by preparing competitive and precise cost estimates for bids.
- Work closely with technical, planning, and construction units to formulate detailed cost estimates for work packages and preliminaries.
- Contribute cost insights related to construction methods, temporary works, resource allocation, and logistics coordination.
- Engage with subcontractors and suppliers to collect, verify, and validate quotes and construction methodologies.
- Synchronize cost estimates with other estimators within the organisation to ensure consistency.
- Support project risk assessments by analyzing and estimating the financial impact of identified risks.
- Regularly update and monitor budgets as design evolves to maintain cost control and deliver value.
- Assist in evaluating and costing changes during the tender phases.
- Maintain and refresh internal cost databases, market intelligence, and performance benchmarks between tenders.
Required Technical Skills and Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of estimating techniques and construction methodologies.
- Proficiency in first principles estimation and both top-down and bottom-up approaches.
- Familiarity with BIM cost modeling and risk assessment tools like QRA.
- Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and analytical tools.
- Ability to carry out accurate take-off measurements.
- Strong numerical analysis and data interpretation skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and capability to perform accurately under pressure.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively present complex information clearly.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently with initiative and resilience under deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience
- Sound understanding of standard industry contracts, including NEC, and procurement methods.
- Experience in infrastructure, rail, or other major projects.
- Proven capability to establish strong relationships with clients, design teams, and stakeholders.
- Highly numerate with a focus on detail accuracy.
- Experienced in cost planning and familiar with measurement software such as CostX or Bluebeam.
