The Role

As the Senior Engineering Manager of Platform Engineering, you will lead a talented group responsible for the foundational engineering that supports all Traild products. Your team owns cloud infrastructure and developer platforms that empower product teams to build, deliver, and maintain software at scale.

This role manages platform components including GCP infrastructure, networking, compute, storage, CI/CD pipelines, observability tools, infrastructure-as-code solutions, developer experience improvements, and FinOps. You will tackle sophisticated challenges involving scalability, reliability, automation, and cloud operations.

Initially, you will lead a small, high-performing squad of four engineers, shaping the technical vision, strategy, and team operating model. As Traild scales globally, Platform Engineering will expand to include cloud and product security domains, presenting opportunities to grow the team and advance into managing multiple engineering managers.

Leadership Expectations

As part of the engineering leadership, you will own technical direction, architectural quality, and engineering standards while connecting engineering efforts to customer and business objectives. You will build processes and playbooks to institutionalize high performance, covering areas such as incident management and onboarding.

Leading with an AI-first mindset, you will consistently seek ways to leverage AI to enhance development speed and quality. Collaboration with other engineering leaders is essential to shaping a unified leadership culture aligned with the company’s growth ambitions.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive technical vision, uphold architectural standards, and set engineering best practices proactively.
• Define and communicate a clear engineering roadmap linked to tangible customer and business outcomes.
• Develop and implement systems and processes that promote team efficiency, reliability, and autonomy.
• Lead, mentor, and grow engineering managers and individual contributors, focusing on equitable development and high performance.
• Monitor key delivery metrics (cycle time, deployment frequency, incident incidence) to continuously enhance team effectiveness.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to scope, staff, and achieve goals across a distributed global workforce.
• Recruit skilled engineers who align with company values and ensure their successful integration from the outset.

Candidate Profile

• Proven experience managing engineering managers and delivering outcomes across multiple squads in fast-paced product settings.
• Robust technical expertise in backend and distributed systems, capable of guiding technical direction and making transparent trade-offs.
• Excellent communicator with the ability to align stakeholders, simplify complexities, and maintain consistent positions across different departments.
