Job description
About the Role and Team
Asana is pioneering AI Teammates: intelligent agents acting like real users within Asana and connected apps. These AI teammates can manage bug triage, respond to complex requests, draft project briefs, carry out research, and execute knowledge-intensive tasks across team workflows. Unlike traditional chatbots, these AI teammates serve as shared resources with memory and contextual understanding that improve through ongoing collaboration. Currently in beta with Fortune 500 firms, this initiative reflects Asana's shift from mere task tracking towards active task completion.
The Engineering Manager will lead the Agent Orchestration team, which builds integration layers connecting Asana's AI capabilities to enterprise systems. This team of six senior engineers develops agent skill frameworks, establishes integrations with tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams, and delivers vertical solutions that enhance agent effectiveness while ensuring reliability and compliance in enterprise environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a senior engineering team focused on connecting AI agents to the enterprise ecosystem.
- Architect and implement agent skills, deep system integrations, and targeted use cases to maximize AI teammates’ utility in enterprise workflows.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Data Science teams to shape and execute the roadmap aligned with Asana's strategic AI priorities.
- Foster coordination among AI teams to establish common infrastructures, APIs, and development patterns for agent functionalities.
- Enhance team delivery speed, promote engineering best practices, and encourage adoption of AI-assisted coding within the team.
- Recruit, retain, and mentor experienced senior engineers.
- Engage in broader organizational engineering leadership within Asana’s AI group beyond the direct team.
Challenges of the Role
The fast-evolving AI domain demands flexible technical leadership able to define enduring directions despite frequent changes in models, integrations, and enterprise policies. Managing stateful, multi-platform enterprise AI agents with strict reliability and compliance requirements requires expert systems integration skills. Retaining top-tier senior talent amid a competitive market also remains a critical responsibility.
Qualifications and Desired Experience
- Minimum eight years in software engineering with at least four years in technical leadership roles.
- Strong enthusiasm and commitment to applied AI, particularly large language models and agentic systems.
- Extensive experience in integrating complex systems and building scalable platform solutions.
- Proven success in setting technical direction and fostering cross-team alignment on shared platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and maintain senior engineering talent.
- Thrives in ambiguous, zero-to-one product development environments and can extract clarity from complexity.
- Strong collaborative skills working cross-functionally with design, product, and data science stakeholders.
- Keen interest in leveraging emerging AI and technology trends to enhance product innovation and team efficiency.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience in deploying applied AI in production environments with impact-driven results.
- Knowledge of agent capability frameworks including skill acquisition, tool integration, and dynamic routing.
- Familiarity with emerging communication protocols like MCP and A2A for agent-to-agent interactions.
- Background improving engineering velocity and adoption of AI-assisted development tools.
- Experience integrating with enterprise platforms such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Salesforce.
- Expertise in AI system observability and evaluation.
Work Environment
This position is based in Asana's Vancouver office following a hybrid onsite schedule. Typical in-office days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, with options for remote work on Wednesdays and Fridays depending on team needs.

The annual base salary range for this role is approximately CAD 238,000 to CAD 270,000, contingent on qualifications and market factors. Besides the base salary, compensation may include equity and additional benefits.
- Mental health and wellness programs
- Career development support
- Inclusive family benefits
- Retirement and savings plans
