Job description

About the Role

Join AECOM, a leading global infrastructure consulting firm, committed to improving communities by delivering essential projects that provide clean water and sustainable utilities. We are looking for a Senior Wet Utilities Engineer based in Doha, Qatar, to spearhead the planning, design, and execution of wet utilities infrastructure projects. This senior position requires a strong grasp of drainage engineering, hydraulic modeling, and infrastructure design according to Qatar’s codes and standards. The role involves leading complex projects, managing technical teams, liaising with authorities, and ensuring compliance with environmental and engineering regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct the overall planning, design, and execution of wet utilities systems, including stormwater drainage, sewage, and wastewater networks.
  • Conduct and assess hydraulic calculations, drainage system designs, and network analyses to ensure optimal system performance and regulatory compliance.
  • Review and endorse engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, and project deliverables.
  • Maintain strict adherence to Qatar's building codes, environmental standards, and local regulations in all designs.
  • Collaborate closely with governmental bodies, utility companies, consultants, contractors, and interdisciplinary teams to secure approvals and resolve technical issues.
  • Lead site assessments, feasibility studies, utility surveys, and topographical studies to aid engineering design and project plans.
  • Manage projects from initial concept and detailed design to construction support, overseeing budgets, schedules, and quality benchmarks.
  • Identify and mitigate design conflicts, engineering risks, and project constraints proactively.
  • Evaluate contractor submissions such as shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements for wet utilities infrastructure.
  • Monitor progress, resource allocation, design quality, and performance to ensure contractual compliance and successful delivery.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior engineers while fostering professional growth and knowledge-sharing within the team.
  • Prepare technical documentation, design reviews, progress reports, and presentations for stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with specialists from various disciplines—including roads, infrastructure, structural and environmental engineering—to ensure harmonious and feasible design solutions.
  • Champion safety, sustainability, transparency, quality assurance, and ethical engineering practices across all projects.
  • Work autonomously, make informed technical decisions, and assume full responsibility for project outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Over 12 years of professional experience in drainage engineering, wet utilities, or related infrastructure projects.
  • Current professional engineering license or registration from Qatar's Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) or equivalent authority.
  • Proven expertise working on infrastructure projects in Qatar with familiarity of local codes and requirements.
  • Advanced skills in drainage system design, hydraulic modeling, and calculations.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and relevant engineering design/modeling tools.
  • Strong knowledge of Qatar-specific engineering codes, regulatory requirements, environmental standards, and local authority guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project delivery within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Experience with site assessment techniques, topographical and utility surveys, and related investigations.
  • Leadership experience including mentoring and coordinating multi-disciplinary engineering teams.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English; advanced written and verbal communication skills in English are highly preferred.
  • Commitment to professional ethics, quality standards, transparency, and accountability.
