Role Overview
The Senior Engineer position focuses on leading mechanical utilities engineering projects from inception through completion. This includes managing project scope, budgeting, scheduling, and delivering advanced mechanical system designs with a high level of expertise in project management controls and technical execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee engineering projects ensuring adherence to budget and timeline through disciplined project management controls.
- Create detailed project plans, allocate resources efficiently, and maintain schedules to guarantee on-time delivery.
- Conduct high-level engineering design tasks such as performing calculations, drafting specifications, and producing detailed design documentation for mechanical utilities systems.
- Carry out primary design activities and technical analysis autonomously to complete engineering deliverables.
- Collect and evaluate engineering data employing established methodologies to inform design choices.
- Innovate design approaches by adapting standard processes to resolve complex challenges, drawing on prior project experience.
- Detect inconsistencies in design outcomes and apply corrective measures to uphold design quality.
- Maintain thorough technical documentation including design calculations, reports, specifications, and rationales.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant codes and standards such as ASME, ANSI, and local regulations.
- Perform quality assurance assessments and oversee testing procedures to validate design integrity and functionality.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and project teams to enhance system performance and reliability.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers on design principles and project execution.
- Suggest process improvements and optimization strategies for mechanical utility systems based on performance reviews.
- Identify and manage project risks, applying mitigation strategies to maintain control and ensure successful delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
- At least 10 to 15 years of hands-on professional experience in mechanical utilities or related fields.
- Proven capacity to independently manage complex mechanical design projects from start to finish.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Project Management Controls (PMC) including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and scope management.
- Competence in engineering calculations, CAD software, and other design tools.
- Detailed knowledge of mechanical codes, standards, and local regulatory frameworks.
- Experience preparing comprehensive technical documentation such as design reports and calculations.
- Strong understanding of the design, installation, and operation of mechanical utility systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to implement corrective actions.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple complex assignments within budget and deadlines.
- Proven experience working with multidisciplinary teams in an engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or eligible to obtain licensure.
- Certification or formal training in advanced project management and PMC.
- Experience guiding or mentoring junior engineers technically.
- Familiarity with quality assurance practices and testing methodologies.
- Background in process enhancement and systems optimization.
- Experience with project planning and scheduling software tools.
- Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, or other mechanical utility systems is an advantage.
