Role Overview

We are searching for a Senior Data Engineer experienced in Azure Data Engineering and preferably Azure Fabric for a 3-month contract, with potential extensions. Candidates must have resided in New Zealand for over 5 years to qualify for government security clearance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and deliver advanced technical solutions on Azure Data Platforms.
  • Lead hands-on end-to-end planning, provisioning, and deployment of Azure Data services.
  • Provide infrastructure and automation skills to enhance and deploy Data Warehousing, Data Functions, and comprehensive data analytics solutions.
  • Design and implement solutions utilizing Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Warehousing, Data Lakes, and App Insights.
  • Liaise with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver effective, data-driven solutions.
  • Support data warehousing tasks including manipulation, migration, and integration.
  • Manage Microsoft PaaS SQL Server databases and high availability setups, including SQL clusters, Always On, and Availability Groups; migrate on-premises services to Azure cloud.
  • Configure logging via Log Analytics Workspace and diagnostic settings.
  • Assist internal and external engineers with data platform configuration for ingestion, manipulation, extraction, and cleansing.

Candidate Profile

  • Proven design and delivery expertise in Azure Data Engineering, including experience with Azure Fabric.
  • Strong ability to analyze business needs and architect Azure data solutions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Azure Data Platform components including Data Catalog, Data Lineage, and Machine Learning frameworks.
  • Deep experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Warehousing, Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, data modeling, Azure SQL, Big Data, Data Lakes, App Insights, and Fabric.
  • Proficient with traditional Microsoft BI tools such as SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
  • Solid understanding of database concepts including SQL Server, Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance, and Application Services configuration.
  • Skilled in Azure DevOps, automation, DevOps integration, and DataOps methodologies.
  • Familiar with additional Azure resources: CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CosmosDB, Event Hub, scorecards, reporting, dashboards, Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), and programming languages.
  • Experience with T-SQL, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Python, Scala, Impala, R, and Power BI is advantageous.
  • Must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident with at least five years of residence in New Zealand for government clearance eligibility.
  • Availability within two weeks for a 3-month daily-rate contract.
  • Can work from any location within New Zealand.
