The company culture values collaboration, innovation, and respect, offering competitive pay, extensive benefits, and flexibility to support professional and personal growth.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to join our engineering team to lead deployment architecture enhancements. Embedded within engineering squads, this role focuses on optimizing daily delivery for our on-premise infrastructure while spearheading the configuration and rollout of a new Kubernetes platform that modernizes deployment and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and enhance Ansible-based deployment automation to support efficient product releases following strict TechOps peer-review guidelines.
- Oversee application health within Kubernetes clusters, collaborating with TechOps for incident management and conducting post-mortems after engineering-led deployments.
- Create and update thorough documentation, including deployment runbooks and developer self-service manuals, to streamline onboarding and release workflows.
- Act as the engineering representative in platform design, collaborating closely with TechOps to define self-service practices, guardrails, and standards around Kubernetes features such as Gateway API, RBAC, admission controls, and resource policies.
- Establish standardized application configurations for ingress, RBAC, namespacing, and secrets management with TechOps.
- Lead phased migrations of applications by containerizing and moving workloads onto Kubernetes, starting with less critical environments before transitioning critical systems.
- Develop robust CI/CD pipelines for Kubernetes deployments employing tools like Helm, Kustomize, or ArgoCD, incorporating automated guardrails to ensure reliable, repeatable, and rapid delivery.
- Setup application observability including metrics, logging, and alerting within namespaces to enhance workload monitoring capabilities.
- Produce and maintain developer-focused documentation to facilitate safe self-service deployment within established guardrails.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively across diverse technical and leadership teams.
- Proven expertise with Ansible, including roles, inventories, vault management, and ensuring idempotency.
- Proficiency in Docker and Docker Compose for production systems.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals.
- Strong scripting skills in Bash and Python.
- Experience with GitOps tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.
- Familiarity with observability tools including Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, and Alertmanager.
- Ability to pragmatically plan and execute within complex legacy systems, progressively moving towards ideal platform architecture.
- Methodical and security-focused approach to engineering challenges.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Knowledge of Helm chart creation and management.
- Experience using infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform in on-premise setups.
- Familiarity with secrets management solutions like HashiCorp Vault, Sealed Secrets, or External Secrets Operator.
- Background balancing greenfield projects alongside routine maintenance and support duties.
Desired Traits
- Comfortable being a go-to resource during urgent issues while also knowing when to schedule tasks thoughtfully.
- Able to communicate effectively with various stakeholders including software engineers, network engineers, and senior leadership possessing different priorities.
- Committed to thorough documentation including runbooks and system diagrams.
- Pragmatic problem solver who selects tools based on practicality rather than perfection.
- Self-starter who takes initiative and drives outcomes independently.
Benefits
- Complete ownership over the software delivery lifecycle including pipeline design and automation.
- Key role in the organization’s cloud-native transition and Kubernetes platform migration.
- Collaborative engineering culture focused on automation, continuous improvement, and modern delivery standards.
- 25 days of holiday plus UK bank holidays.
- Enhanced parental leave: 6 months full pay for birth parents and 4 weeks full pay for non-birth parents after one year of service.
- Additional 5 Partnerize Parental Days per year.
- Private medical and dental insurance coverage.
- Superior pension contributions.
- Cycle to Work scheme participation.
- Eye care vouchers.
- Life assurance policy.
- Expanded wellness program encompassing employee assistance, coaching, and health initiatives.
- Regular company gatherings and team-building activities.
