Role Overview

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a vital role within our global Data Science team, designing, developing, and maintaining AI and machine learning systems pivotal to our marketplace platforms. This position is hands-on and permanent, based in Munich, requiring leadership in both technology and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

• End-to-end ownership of machine learning and Generative AI systems in production, including problem definition, architecture, deployment, monitoring, and iterative improvements.
• Make informed architectural and methodological decisions on AWS-based ML infrastructures, optimizing for reliability, visibility, cost effectiveness, and sustainable maintenance.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Business stakeholders to translate ambiguous challenges into clearly-defined ML product solutions with measurable results.
• Manage and evolve ML applications across diverse markets and countries, considering varying data distributions, compliance requirements, and operational constraints.
• Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior data scientists through code reviews, design discussions, and shared responsibilities.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Advanced academic degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related disciplines.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience delivering production-grade machine learning systems with full lifecycle ownership.
• Proficiency in Python and contemporary ML frameworks, with demonstrated capability to develop, deploy, monitor, and refine operational ML models.
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud environments and MLOps best practices including scalable deployment and system observability.
• Applied experience with Generative AI and large language models in production or applied research contexts, understanding practical limitations and trade-offs.
• Strong collaborative skills for influencing technical decisions through sound judgment and partnership rather than authority.
• Track record of supporting and nurturing junior team members with hands-on guidance and constructive feedback.
• High sense of responsibility and pragmatic mindset focused on outcome delivery and balancing priorities.
