Senior Data Engineering Expert

About the Role

Amadeus is seeking a Senior Data Engineering Expert with extensive experience in the airline information technology sector. This leadership position involves directing the design, development, and modernization of enterprise-level data platforms and integration ecosystems. The role includes managing advanced batch and real-time data pipelines, large ETL frameworks, cloud data platforms, and enterprise data management systems that support airline operations, customer experience, revenue management, commerce analytics, and compliance reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute data architecture strategies across commercial, digital, customer, and operational areas.
• Design resilient, scalable, and secure data platforms to support analytics, reporting, machine learning, and operational decision processes.
• Lead the transformation of legacy data systems to cloud-native Lakehouse architectures and enterprise ecosystems.
• Set data engineering standards, governance, and best practices organization-wide.
• Develop scalable data architectures supporting airline commercial and digital functions, including Reservations and Passenger Service Systems, Revenue Management, Loyalty, CRM, Customer Data Platforms, Digital Engagement, customer analytics, personalization, commercial performance, and regulatory reporting.
• Build scalable data ingestion, transformation, and operational layers handling batch and streaming data.
• Create metadata-driven, reusable ETL/ELT frameworks for large transactional and customer data volumes.
• Implement enterprise integration using APIs, event-driven design, messaging, and hybrid connectivity.
• Establish data quality checks, lineage, metadata handling, and monitoring systems.
• Automate deployment, orchestration, monitoring, recovery, and operational support workflows.
• Design streaming data architectures for near-real-time operational insights and business intelligence.
• Enable event-driven processing for customer engagement, disruption management, and operational monitoring.
• Ensure performance and scalability of real-time processing platforms.
• Develop Master Data Management strategies covering customers, flights, airports, aircraft, crew, and reference data.
• Promote data stewardship, golden record management, metadata governance, and data quality initiatives.
• Maintain compliance with security, privacy, regulatory, and corporate standards.
• Lead and mentor engineering and architecture teams, fostering engineering excellence.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, product owners, architects, operations teams, and executives.
• Drive strategic modernization, cloud migration, and enterprise data platform projects.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or related fields.
• Experience in Data Engineering, Architecture, Platform Engineering, or Enterprise Management.
• Track record delivering enterprise-scale data platforms in complex environments, preferably airline, aviation, travel, or transport sectors.
• Expertise with Microsoft Azure and Databricks Lakehouse technologies for cloud-native data architectures.
• Hands-on skills with Apache Spark, Scala, Spark SQL, Delta Lake, and modern orchestration frameworks supporting batch and streaming workflows.
• Proven success building enterprise ETL/ELT frameworks and high-performance pipelines handling operational, commercial, and customer data.
• Understanding of enterprise integration patterns including API-driven, event-driven, messaging, and hybrid models connecting operational and analytical systems.
• Experience in data warehousing, analytical modeling, database design, SQL tuning, and handling large structured and semi-structured data.
• Knowledgeable in Master Data Management, metadata frameworks, stewardship, golden record processes, and governance practices.
• Strong grasp of data quality, lineage, observability, security, privacy, compliance, and governance within enterprise data environments.
• Ability to define standards, lead teams, mentor professionals, and guide modernization and cloud efforts.

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to Passenger Service Systems, Revenue Management, Loyalty Platforms, CRM, CDP, digital commerce, and airline customer experience solutions.
• Support for advanced analytics, AI, machine learning, and personalization on modern data platforms.
• Familiarity with Data Mesh, Data Fabric, or domain-oriented data architectures.
• Experience in large-scale enterprise transformation initiatives.
• Relevant certifications in Azure, Databricks, Data Engineering, Cloud Architecture, or Enterprise Data Management.
