Job Overview

The Senior Data Center Critical Facilities Engineer (Electrical) is a seasoned technical expert focused on ensuring the continuous reliability, availability, and safe operation of essential power infrastructure within data centers. This role provides technical leadership over electrical operations, maintenance, fault resolution, and incident management, supporting uninterrupted service delivery to customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain critical electrical systems, including UPS units, diesel generators, switchgear, transformers, PDUs, breakers, and power distribution networks.
• Execute advanced preventive and corrective maintenance tasks to uphold system reliability and uptime.
• Lead electrical troubleshooting initiatives to resolve complex infrastructure challenges promptly, reducing operational risks and minimizing customer impact.
• Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring Systems (EPMS) to detect alarms and preempt potential service disruptions.
• Coordinate critical electrical activities such as maintenance windows, switching operations, energization, and recovery efforts.
• Conduct facility inspections to assess electrical infrastructure health, recommending improvements to augment reliability.
• Assist with electrical capacity planning and load management to prepare infrastructure for business expansion.
• Proactively identify and implement system enhancements to improve reliability, operational efficiency, and energy performance.
• Prepare, review, and approve technical documents including Maintenance Operation Protocols (MOPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), and switching plans.
• Ensure all maintenance tasks adhere to safety standards, operational policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain comprehensive records of infrastructure condition, maintenance history, and operational documentation.
• Serve as a technical leader during electrical incidents, guiding onsite teams through incident response, restoration, and root cause analyses.
• Manage vendor relationships, supervising electrical contractors and service providers to ensure quality and compliance with safety and data center standards.
• Lead resolution of complex work orders and support infrastructure growth through power utilization analysis and commissioning of new systems.
• Mentor engineering and technician teams, fostering knowledge sharing and professional growth.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Critical Facilities, Customer Operations, Security, Design & Construction, and vendors to optimize operational excellence.
• Drive electrical infrastructure projects focused on upgrades, capacity increases, modernization, and reliability improvements.
• Participate in commissioning and acceptance testing of new deployments while advancing lifecycle management of key electrical assets.
• Champion initiatives to boost uptime, reliability, safety, and overall operational effectiveness.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• At least 5 years of hands-on experience managing critical electrical infrastructure within data centers, utilities, industrial sites, telecommunications, or mission-critical settings.
• Proven expertise with power systems such as UPS, diesel generators, switchgear, breakers, transformers, and medium/low-voltage distribution networks.
• Skilled in executing electrical switching, maintenance planning, and incident management activities.
• Strong ability to diagnose complex electrical faults and perform root cause investigations.
• Experienced in supervising maintenance vendors and coordinating electrical infrastructure projects.
• In-depth knowledge of electrical safety standards, operational risk protocols, and permit-to-work systems.
