About the Role
Join the Cyber Security Program and Engagement team within the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism, Hospitality and Sport in a vital role dedicated to safeguarding cyber assets. This senior position, classified at Clerk Grade 9/10, offers a full-time, ongoing opportunity based in Sydney CBD with flexible hybrid working options available in line with operational needs. The salary package ranges from $133,348 to $146,945 annually plus superannuation and leave loading.
You will provide expert advice on cyber security governance, risk management, operations, and compliance to enable the Department and affiliated agencies to effectively mitigate cyber threats and satisfy legislative and policy requirements. The role encompasses operational security oversight, incident support, vulnerability management, compliance, and stakeholder advisory functions aimed at bolstering cyber resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance the Department’s cybersecurity strategy, policies, frameworks, and operating models through ongoing development and implementation.
- Conduct thorough cyber risk assessments on projects, systems, products, and suppliers; offer actionable recommendations to ameliorate security risks.
- Provide expert guidance to business and technology teams and partner agencies throughout project and service lifecycles.
- Support incident management activities including coordination during cyber events, stakeholder communication, and post-incident analysis.
- Continuously monitor emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and trends impacting the Department and its portfolio, assessing potential risks.
- Develop comprehensive reporting for senior leadership and governance forums to enable informed decision-making.
- Foster strong collaborative relationships with internal teams, portfolio agencies, vendors, and government cyber security bodies.
- Contribute to vendor assessments and procurements focused on security controls and contract compliance.
- Support governance, risk and compliance processes, including maintaining registers, reporting, and assurance activities.
- Assist with cyber security training, awareness, and stakeholder engagement initiatives across the Department and its agencies.
- Mentor junior cyber security team members to promote knowledge transfer and continuous improvement.
About You
- Familiarity with Australian cyber security standards and regulatory frameworks such as the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential Eight, Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), and NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
- Practical experience in security operations and proficiency with industry-relevant security tools is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, with sound risk assessment and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional communication skills, able to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Proven stakeholder management expertise with an ability to build relationships and influence across diverse teams.
- A proactive and accountable approach ensuring outcomes are delivered through effective expectation management.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate self-motivation with minimal supervision.
- Adaptability to shifting priorities and evolving business requirements.
