Senior Consultant - General Surgery

Overview

This role is designated for the senior-most physician beneath the Department Chair or Section Head within General Surgery. The individual oversees a team consisting of Consultants and junior doctors, managing their activities and decisions. The Senior Consultant holds responsibility for all patients admitted under their care and supervises clinical decisions made by doctors reporting to them. Superior interpersonal skills are essential to effectively represent the clinical work and the team.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Consultant is tasked with delivering exemplary patient care — including diagnosis, treatment, management, and admission of patients under their name. Additionally, close collaboration with department leadership is required to address operational matters such as service advancement, budget management, staffing, as well as contributing to teaching, training programs for junior medical staff, academic research, and priority setting.

Qualifications and Experience

• Medical qualification from western countries equivalent to UK, USA, Canada, or Australia standards
• At least five years of clinical practice post-qualification specifically in General Surgery
• Valid medical registration or license from the practitioner's country of origin or eligibility for licensing in Qatar
• Exceptional communication, teamwork, and interpersonal abilities
