Role Overview

Reporting directly to the Chief of Global Conflicts & Legal Ethics and the Director of Conflicts & Legal Ethics, this Senior Conflicts Attorney role is an essential part of the firm's risk mitigation framework. The position focuses on addressing conflicts of interest and managing new client onboarding across the firm's global operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the principal contact for partner inquiries on conflict issues throughout the firm.
  • Coordinate and oversee conflict research processes to promptly identify and resolve conflicts for new clients and matters firm-wide.
  • Guide and supervise procedures related to new client intake, matter screening, and conflict waivers.
  • Advise attorneys on conflict regulations, assisting with compliance during client engagement and conflict waiver documentation.
  • Manage development and implementation of formal ethics screens across the firm.
  • Communicate firm conflict policies and propose improvements as needed.
  • Provide expertise on conflict rules across various jurisdictions and practice areas where the firm operates globally.
  • Review matters for potential unethical, illegal, or improper conduct and escalate appropriately.
  • Fulfill additional duties associated with conflict management as required.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of five years legal experience within a law firm or as in-house counsel.
  • Strong understanding of large firm practice areas including financial institutions, banking and capital markets, private equity, and business entities.
  • Expertise in identifying and resolving conflicts in transactions, restructurings, bankruptcies, and litigation.
  • Proficient with internet research and databases such as WCO and CapitalIQ.
  • Skilled in researching corporate ownership and SEC filings for identifying shareholders and substantial owners.
  • Ability to analyze complex corporate relationships to evaluate their impact on firm engagements.
  • Self-motivated, exercising sound judgment and discretion while working independently.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for working across all levels in a global context with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong verbal and written communication capabilities to clearly explain legal relationships and conflict considerations.
  • Analytical aptitude for summarizing conflict situations and proposing viable resolutions.
  • Organizational competence to consistently deliver accurate work in high-demand conditions.
  • Capacity to learn and operate specialized internal conflict-checking systems and multiple departmental software tools.
  • Logical thinking combined with practical judgment to effectively execute a variety of assigned tasks.

Employment Details

Compensation for this role is competitive. The position follows a hybrid working model: office presence is required Monday through Thursday, with remote work available on Fridays.
