Job description

Overview

Fractile is pioneering innovative silicon, system, and software technologies aimed at transforming AI capabilities by significantly enhancing speed and reducing costs for running the most complex models. The team comprises experts in hardware and software, expanding rapidly to meet ambitious goals and scale product delivery.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive architectural specifications for core compute engines, optimizing for performance, adaptability, power efficiency, area, and design complexity.
  • Lead the exploration of architectural concepts from initial ideas through detailed specifications, collaborating closely with modelling, implementation, verification, and physical design teams.
  • Define execution units, memory systems, instruction sets, and data flows, making well-considered trade-offs at all architectural levels.
  • Create and update performance models and simulation tools to guide decisions with empirical data.
  • Coordinate with system architecture and software/modelling teams to ensure processor performance meets actual application demands, transcending mere benchmark metrics.
  • Assess emerging technologies such as innovative numerical formats, novel computation methods, and advanced packaging to influence the architectural roadmap.
  • Serve as a mentor to elevate standards in performance analysis and architectural documentation throughout the engineering team.
  • Represent the compute engine architecture perspective during technical reviews, stakeholder partnerships, and customer interactions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Substantial track record as a Processor Architect, CPU/GPU Architect, or comparable roles in semiconductor or high-performance computing sectors.
  • In-depth knowledge of compute engine and processor architectures, encompassing matrix and vector-focused floating-point operations and hierarchical memory design.
  • Strong familiarity with RTL design workflows and physical design constraints and how these influence architectural decisions.
  • Experience progressing processor designs from conceptual stages through tapeout and post-silicon analysis.
  • Skilled in managing and balancing performance and power budgets while handling complex design trade-offs.
  • Adept at multidisciplinary collaboration involving architecture, modelling, implementation, verification, and software domains.
  • Excellent communication skills capable of integrating deep architectural insight with broader system and product perspectives.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in AI acceleration, vector/matrix computation, or specialized processor designs.
  • Familiarity with architectural performance modelling tools such as gem5, SystemC, or custom cycle-accurate simulators.
  • Knowledge of compiler and toolchain workflows and their hardware mappings.
  • Background working in start-up or scaling environments, thriving amid ambiguity and rapid development cycles.

Working Environment & Culture

  • Empowered ownership with accountability to independently drive projects forward.
  • Fast-paced, iterative development collaborating directly with senior leadership to realize hardware innovation on aggressive timelines.
  • Cross-functional teamwork across hardware, software, silicon, and modelling groups to produce groundbreaking products.
  • Culture of optimism and pragmatism, dedicated to overcoming challenges and achieving success.
  • Focus on teamwork and shared mission, valuing curiosity and technical excellence to deliver the best solutions regardless of origin.

Company Information

  • Established in 2022 with a fast-growing team exceeding 80 members.
  • Modern, open office facilities located in London and Bristol.
  • Collaborative culture emphasizing deep curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit, and technical mastery.
